Job Description

Melvindale Housing Commission is seeking to hire a Resident Opportunity Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Coordinator. The position works under the general supervision of the Property Manager, the ROSS Services Coordinator is responsible for linking residents to supportive services needed in order to continue living safely in an independent setting in the ROSS grant funded program. Develop, implement and monitor activities for residents. Provide counseling as needed. Must have strong organizational skills, are decisive within the scope of the position’s responsibilities, and use consistent discretion and good judgment. Must have the ability to work sensitively with a variety of individuals from different backgrounds, races, ethnicities and abilities. Meets all goals and objectives as established in the HUD logic model for the awarded grant. Provides general service management which includes intake, education and referral of residents to service providers in the community. Conducts in-depth interviews/discussions with residents to determine eligibility for ROSS services; collects information, maintain files, and reports out as required.

Education: - Bachelor’s Degree in social work or gerontology preferred. Equivalent education and experience in social service delivery with senior citizens and non-elderly disabled will be considered.

Experience: - Knowledge or training related to the aging process, elderly or disabled services a must.

Skills: Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of issues including conflict management, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and the ability to deal with a variety of social service needs. Predictable and on time attendance.
