Associate Microbiologist

This position has the responsibility and authority to support the microbiology and environmental monitoring programs; provide scientific support and timely evaluation of new products, material, and process changes in compliance with medical device regulations. The position is responsible, under general supervision, for generation of test plans, coordination of sample tests, and final reports suitable for regulatory submission. The position is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of documentation generated.

Day in the life:

* Prepare samples for testing according to SOPs using proper aseptic technique.
* Utilize microbiological techniques, gram staining, reading and enumeration of plates.
* Preparation of equipment for autoclaving.
* Properly sterilize and dispose of microbiological wastes.
* Take process water samples and test for microbial content and limited chemical analysis.
* Clean glassware.
* Perform general lab maintenance and cleaning.
* Perform Environmental Testing of Environmentally Controlled Areas (ECAs) according to SOPs; including non-viable air particulate counts, viable air particulate counts, and surface plating.
* Prepare microbiological media and solutions for assays, routinely checking for expiration dates.
* Use routine laboratory safety procedures and use appropriate PPE when preparing chemicals or disposing of biological wastes.
* Provide technical support concerning biological assessments of material and device safety as required for device qualification and marketing.
* Development of test plans for new products and material or process changes.
* With input from manager, exercises technical judgment in selecting and justifying appropriate microbiological and production test methods, techniques and criteria.
* Update department technical procedures, work instructions, and other documentation as required.
* Will participate in studies and other duties under general supervision, as required.
* All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
* Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.
* All other duties as assigned
* Travel requirement: Less than 10%

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Science, Microbiology, or related field.

Nice to Have

* 1+ years of combined research, internship, and professional experience in a medical device/ pharmaceutical or laboratory environment preferred.
* Medical Device experience preferred.
* Direct experience in Microbiology testing.
* Experience in writing technical documents (i.e.: scientific publications/reports).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Work effectively with diverse teams and individuals from varied disciplines.
* Multitask and track multiple projects at various stages.
* Ability to work with changing priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
* Must be accurate with a strong attention to detail and be organized.
* Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
