CTB/McGraw-Hill , a division of McGraw-Hill Education, has an exceptional opportunity for a Software QA Lead This position will be located in the Bay Area or Monterey, CA.

The Software QA Lead will be responsible for the preparation and implementation of all aspects of product quality assurance relating to new development and maintenance of existing systems. Perform an active role in developing and improving quality assurance procedures. Supervision of in-direct reports as well as cross-functional management of the SQA analyst team. Set the priority of the tasks, assign the tasks to team members, attend the interdepartmental meetings to gather QA requirements and provide QA guidelines and directions to team members.

Essential Accountabilities:

Prepare and review IEEE-modeled software test plans in accordance with customer requirements and system design/functional specifications and CTB business model.

Interpret complex business/data requirements and translate into a comprehensive scenario or "test data" (using SQL, PL/SQL and/or data generation tools).

Work with Development to understand the system design and software functionality and review requirements and software specifications.

Develop estimates for Quality Assurance project deliverables (including duration, effort, scope, schedule, resources, etc) and work with project management in scheduling of tasks and overall testing schedule. Review testing activities of team members. Be the primary contact for the overall status of the testing project.

Develop and/or direct test data development, test tools development and SQA checklists.

Coordinate testing activities across team and obtain resources as required. Perform all project testing assignments according to Standard procedures.

Execute test plan tasks, review results and utilize a defect tracking system to record and track resolution of defects.

Provide testing status to project management team. Work with change management technicians in release of software to the production environment and conduct production testing.

Assemble test results and conduct the SQA Release Review. As required, review software test effort and suggest process improvements to Technology Development and Test Management.

Assess staffing needs, establish priorities and set course of action to meet priorities; establish goals and objectives, and develop tools to measure the performance of the employment function

Required Experience

5+ years of strong operating systems knowledge, Web technologies and tools, specifically Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, Vista, VSS, CVS, Test Director, Oracle DB (RDBMS Concepts), Oracle SQL, PL SQL and ETL.

Knowledge of Informatica client tools, Data Warehousing concepts, Data Analysis and Validation, MS SQL Server, UNIX and Microsoft Office (Access, Project, Outlook, Excel, Word).


Bachelor degree in software development-related field.
Experience with SDLC & project management life cycles
5+ Years of Experience with QA Test Management Tools (Quality Center, Defect Tracking, Test Automation, QTP, Selenium, Web Testing tools)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and PS8 to schedule and monitor testing activities.
Experience in software quality assurance procedures, methods and root cause analysis.
Experience in directing others in software test or validation activities.
