Job Description

Department: Pharmacy

A Life-Changing Career


Responsibilities: Assists pharmacists in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Prepares medications accurately and performs timely distribution which may include potentially critical, high expense medications, such as chemotherapy, investigational agents, controlled substances and potentially hazardous substances in a dosage form ready for administration. Performs compounded sterile preparations (CSP) using aseptic technique and/or utilizes technical equipment such as automated drug dispensing technology, barcode software and automated packaging technology to provide accurate, safe products for patient administration. Performs multiple computer functions, facilitates accurate charging/crediting of medications via various computer applications. Good organizational and problem solving skills with the ability to prioritize critical work appropriately and assure timely delivery of product to the patient care areas. Ability to provide optimal customer service in a call center environment having strong telephone and verbal communication skills. Requires a variety of shifts that include days, evenings and occasional nights. Two weekends out of four.

Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Must be organized, efficient, and able to work independently and in a team setting. Ability to organize & prioritize work in a high volume, busy environment and pay attention to detail. Ability to comprehend the use of instruments and operate mechanical equipment. Understanding and application of math & calculator skills and the metric system. Good communication and telephone skills. Computer use and keyboarding skills. Employees are required to remain in a position for a minimum of two years before requesting a transfer to another position within the institution. No history of drug abuse or misuse, or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.

Additional Qualifications: Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

Completion of two years post-secondary education preferred. Prior experience as a pharmacy technician preferred (hospital pharmacy experience desired). A skills assessment will be administered at the time of interview, and a 'Pass' score is required.

License or Certification: Registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy required or obtained upon hire prior to working in this position. National Pharmacy Technician Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required, or obtained within 12 months of employment. Must never have been convicted of a felony to sit for the PTCB Certification Examination. Revocation of Certification would result in termination.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $16.78 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Monday through Friday, variable shifts.
Weekend Schedule: 1 out of 2.
