Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Payroll Practitioner will work closely with the Payroll Accounting Manager and Payroll Administrator to ensure that all biweekly payroll is processed in an accurate and timely manner. The Payroll Practitioner will also collaborate with the Human Resources Office and Finance Department staff to provide necessary reports and will be responsible to implement and improve policy for the department.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

* Enter data in payroll system, including benefit deductions;
* Maintain and verify all data in accounting systems;
* Administer Self Service Time and Attendance;
* Review all Time Reporting Codes and secondary approvals for bi-weekly payroll;
* Enter time and attendance exceptions for full-time faculty on a weekly basis, including maintaining and filing weekly exceptions for auditing purposes;
* Process miscellaneous payroll compensation requests, meal, and travel allowances;
* Assist and provide back-up to the Payroll Administrator with full-time and part-time payroll;
* Run applicable weekly reports based on Best Practices Procedures to ensure accuracy of bi-weekly payroll;
* Complete employment verifications, retirement board forms, workers compensation and unemployment questionnaires;
* Work with the State Comptroller Office to process garnishments;
* Process final payroll tasks for new hires and terminations;
* Administer sick bank program and leave balances;
* Enter year-end imputed income amounts;
* Maintain and file records as needed;
* Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in payroll, accounting or auditing, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.*

* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with a payroll processing system;
* Knowledge of State and Federal payroll laws;
* Proficient in Excel;
* Ability to analyze, calculate and administer financial data;
* Capacity to meet critical deadlines;
* Ability to communicate with others and write concisely;
* Ability to work individually as well as part of a team;
* Experience in Higher Education.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: AFSCME Unit I, Grade 16, Step 1 $45,873.88 annually. Appointments from outside the bargaining unit begin at Step 1 of the range.
