Job Description

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in a related field, e.g., computer science or education; proficiency with one or more modern front-end frameworks and one or more back-end architectures, JavaScript/HTML/CSS, one or more object-oriented programming languages, and one or more mobile development environments; excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and time management skills; meticulous attention to detail; self-direction; strong interest in education and/or gaming; and discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues. Strong candidates will have experience with cross-platform mobile development and source control systems such as Git, UX/front-end design skills/experience, professional software development experience, and formal/informal teaching and/or classroom experience. Experience with Amazon Web Services, Axway (Appcelerator) Titanium, JQuery, CakePHP, MySQL, and/or Google Closure a plus. Job #17344

May travel two to four times per year for consultation with partner organizations, conducting user testing on location, and/or for outreach. When working directly with teachers and students, occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, Comparative Media Studies/Writing-MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program, to work with project leads developing a cooperative online game utilizing video and audio playback, web forums, email and text-messaging applications, and data derived from other mobile apps; and work with project leads as the technical lead for TaleBlazer, a location-based augmented reality platform. Will be responsible for all technical tasks related to the development and maintenance of these software platforms, including the architecture, design, development, implementation, testing, documentation, deployment, maintenance, and support of all platform aspects and for directly supervising student contributors. Will design and implement new features; recruit and supervise students; perform QA and technical support; update and maintain deployed software; assist with research, outreach, and strategic planning; and perform other duties as needed.

The MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program, part of the MIT Education Arcade, focuses on creating playful, powerful learning experiences using the affordances of new educational technologies.
