Job Description

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in economics, political science, education, public policy, international development, or related field; training in and strong technical understanding of randomized impact evaluations; at least two years' work experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate) that includes experience in quantitative data analysis, economics, or a related discipline; interest in poverty alleviation policy/research as demonstrated by coursework and/or study or work abroad; knowledge of data management, data analysis, and econometrics; solid command of (or willingness to learn) Stata or knowledge of R or other analytics programs; and proficiency with Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel). Interest in and experience with data cleaning and analysis of large, complex data sets would be ideal. LaTeX knowledge; exposure to MATLAB, Python, or Julia; experience conducting field research in developing countries; a background in randomized evaluations; and experience working with government and other partners a plus. RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING (RET) ASSOCIATE, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL)-Global-Research, Education, and Training (RET) Group (2 openings), to contribute to greater research transparency and open data efforts by documenting and preparing research datasets for publication and building tools that streamline and facilitate these tasks for research partners. Will review randomized trials submitted to the registry; develop new tools for research projects (including developing code, packages, programs, etc.) that increase efficiency; help organize a conference of experts and curate a handbook of case study chapters on the innovative use of administrative data for research; research/design new teaching modules and prepare presentations/case studies/manuals; assist with conducting in-person courses/workshops; conduct data analysis and answer questions on research transparency or RET topics; and support J-PAL's online course portfolio, e.g., course set-up, assisting students, etc.
