Job Description

LEAD LABORATORY TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR, School of Engineering, to collaborate with the faculty lead and other teaching staff and be responsible for tactical execution and operational oversight of all the project-centric aspects of a specific thread (e.g., autonomy and robotics), as part of an undergraduate B.S. degree in engineering. The focus will be to assist students with designing and making their own new autonomous machines (e.g., drones, robots, and rovers) and enabling testing, experiments, and projects. Will provide laboratory instruction in the thread's undergraduate courses and subjects and technical instruction, training, and supervision in related teaching and research laboratories. Responsibilities will include lab safety, maintaining and repairing equipment, and assisting with the day-to-day operation of the shared laboratories as needed. The position also involves working effectively with faculty, lecturers, teaching assistants, and students as a member of the teaching staff, including teaching undergraduate laboratory classes, introductory lectures, and hands-on experiments. Since the projects are also a vehicle for students to learn and practice their personal and interpersonal skills, the position will involve working collaboratively with experts involved in coaching and training students on those skills.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master's in engineering and eight years' relevant experience or a Ph.D. and five years' experience. Must have developed expertise in one or more areas related to autonomy and robotics, e.g., signals and systems, automatic control, real time systems and software, artificial intelligence, feedback control systems, autonomy and decision making, and/or robotics. Should also have expertise with experimental techniques and engineering analysis and managing a student lab and project environment. Proven experience and interest required in working in a teaching environment also desired. Job #14770
