POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Packaging Operator is responsible for safely operating the packaging equipment such as a bagger and/or palletizer to package in-process product in accordance with the production schedule.  They are responsible for checking the product that meets all Quality and Food Safety Specifications such as Critical Control Point (CCP) limits, color, net weight, lot code, etc. while complying with all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).  The Extruder Operator works closely with Processing Lead, Mill Room Operator and the Packaging Lead to ensure they are aligned on production cut-off's while maximizing efficiencies and minimizing waste/scrap.  They are also responsible for the sanitation of the extruder room area and performing the weekly start-up's and shutdowns if required.  They also are responsible for maintaining and cleaning the equipment and tools/supplies used in the extrusion area.

 

 

The role functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities.  This role will operate/change over specified machinery in the assigned area.  Production Operators must ensure efficiency, operational conformance, product quality and continuous improvement.  Production Operators must have the skill set to train and/or perform the tasks of other associates in the area as needed.  This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support site objectives.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Performs all assigned activities and job tasks within a line or area.

 

  1. Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

 

  1. Takes corrective actions in solving problems to root cause level.

     

  2. Assess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments and malfunction troubleshooting.

     

  3. Performs and/or works with Maintenance to complete equipment preventive maintenance.

     

  4. Maintains accurate records of QC checks, production numbers or waste performance.

     

  5. Performs all shift support documentation in a quality matter.

     

  6. Performs QC tasks such as metal checks, inspection of date codes, item numbers, dump logs, etc.

     

  7. Demonstrates high degree of ownership for product quality:Performs all standard quality checks & other quality related duties.

     

  8. Understands production schedules, production computer systems, work instructions and production inventories.

     

     

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes from hot to cold, dust, dirt and chemicals

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)

  • Standing on a concrete floor

  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules

  • Working knowledge of Safety, Quality and Food Safety, Material Management Systems and procedures

 

 

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines

  • 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline

  • Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email

  • Knowledge of inventory control principles
