Duties and responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the development and implementation through line management of HSES programs and initiatives in support of the faci l ity's compliance programs , RCMS, and facility and corporate goals.
  • Assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations along with company policies and standards.
  • Identify, prioritize, develop, and implement HSES department activities to ensure that it is supporting and contributing to the goals and objectives of the facility and the overall HSES function .
  • Manage resources (personnel and/or expense) across the HSES department to ensure resources are assigned appropriately and that priorities are being addressed effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide the leadership to the HSES staff to support an enriching work environment with job assignments and experiences that provide for professional growth and development (if applicable).
  • Represent Lubrizol on community activities (e.g. Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) and Community Advisory Panel (CAP) as appropriate.
  • Actively participate in industrial trade group functions, including the environmental , safety, and health committees of the Chemistry Council of New Jersey (CCNJ).
  • Interface with other manufacturing companies within the industrial complex, representing and forwarding the interests of Lubrizol operations .
  • Manage corporate recordkeeping  systems, including HSES tracking, Responsible Care Data Management System (RCDMS), air emissions, waste and utilities tracking, Active Leamer computer-based  learning and Safety Data Sheet systems.
  • Manage and update as necessary all environmental permits, including air, process water, stormwater, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and spill control permits.
  • Lead and document Process Hazard Assessments utilizing Hazard and Operability Study or What-If mechanisms.
  • Be responsible for ongoing compliance with U.S. Department  of Homeland Security requirements.
  • Participate in corporate HSES functions, including internal auditing programs in Safety and Health , Environmental, RCMS, Process Safety, and Security.
  • Perform the function of Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Act (TCPA) responsible manager, overseeing compliance with federal and state process safety regulations.
  • Manage the emergency response (ER) aspects of the operation, including interface with industrial complex ER team (drills, training) and maintaining Lubrizol-owned emergency respon se infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain recordkeeping for all aspects of regulatory needs including training records and audit results.


Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor 's degree in science, engineering, occupational health or related major
  • 4+ years of experience in an HSE role in a chemical manufacturing facility. Process and product manufacturing experience would be beneficial as well as supervisory experience.
  • Good overall leadership skills and the ability to influence across peer group
  • Ability to communicate clearly and listen attentively at all levels with internal and external parties.
  • Reliable and timely; able to work constantly towards deadlines
  • Information Technology Skills; Knowledge of SAP; Proficient  in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage resources and priorities.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and present data to help drive continuous improvement.
  • Effective decision making and problem solving skills
  • Good organizational skills, motivational and influenti al; to bring out the best in others
