The Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD) is the second largest, two-year public college district in California, serving approximately 75,000 students in the greater Sacramento region. Position Summary

This pool of applicants is used by the various departments throughout our district to search for applicants interested in working temporarily as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter. Assignments may vary in length and hours of the day, up to 135 days per fiscal year per board regulations. Assignments vary in scope, and may include any of the duties as listed in this posting. Responsibilities will vary, depending upon temporary interpreter level, education, skills, assessments and needs of the hiring supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Student Intern (Level I): Enrolled in ASL 3 or equivalent. Demonstrates sign communication skills adequate for this level.

Student Intern (Level II): Demonstrate competency for this level of placement. Demonstrates satisfactory skills assessment for this level.

Beginning Interpreter: Currently enrolled in or completion of Interpreter Training Program or documentation of interaction and/or contact with the Deaf community or demonstrated equivalent skill. Requires completion of skills enhancement training and as skills assessment evaluation.

Intermediate Interpreter: Satisfactory completion of the Interpreter Training Program or documentation of the interaction and/or long term contact with the Deaf community or satisfactory skills assessment evaluation for this level. Requires completion of skills enhancement training and a skills assessment evaluation. Must complete a Code of Ethics Class within 2 semesters of hiring. This Code of Ethics requirement is also covered under the - EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) and a written exam through the RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf).

Advanced Interpreter (Level I): Currently enrolled in and completed ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) or documentation of interaction and/or long term contact with the Deaf community or satisfactory skills assessment evaluation for this level. Demonstrates speed and sophistication in the voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretations. Demonstrates through the assessment process an ability to handle subject matters of a complex nature. Must complete a Code of Ethics Class within 2 semesters of hiring. This Code of Ethics requirement is also covered under the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) and a written exam through RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf).

Advanced Interpreter (Level II): RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Certification or any certification recognized by through the NRID (National Registry of Interpreters). Demonstrates speed and sophistication in the voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretations and upon request will go through the evaluation process at DSPS (Disabled Student Programs and Services). Code of Ethics requirement included in Certification process.

Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 15 units are equal to six months of education; 30 units are equal to one year of education.)
