Job Description :

Under direction of senior personnel, the candidate for this entry level position will provide mechanical engineering research/design requirements support for the assembly, test, disassembly of missiles and missile subassemblies inside a restricted access area. Operations are conducted in various operations buildings for handling, storage and modification/correction of missiles and missile subassemblies at SWFLANT, Kings Bay, Georgia. Candidate will perform entry level research for investigations to determine the cause of failures/anomalies for mechanical products and systems such as TVC hydraulics and servoactuators for the missile controls systems. Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop design changes as required in order to correct/resolve failure modes. Assist in the development of solutions based on design drawing requirements for failure conditions and actions required to preclude recurrence. Recommend appropriate options to resolve issues based on design requirements for the disposition of non-conforming missile and support equipment hardware. Coordinate the technical disposition with the engineering group lead prior to coordination with material review personnel, design organizations, and customer representatives. Document mechanical/controls investigations in reports and provide status to group lead/Manager. Participate in proofing new design changes, documentation, equipment, processes, or capabilities as required. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally or in written form. Perform entry level mechanical design/research engineering functions for projects with customers, various LMSSC organizations and appropriate contractors. Must be willing to work around ordnance, shift work and overtime as required.

Basic Qualifications

BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university.

Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security clearance.

Ability and willingness to work around ordnance;

Willingness to work shiftwork & overtime; Word, Powerpoint, Excel & Project computer skills.

Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and mechanical design theories.

Desired skills

Ability to apply engineering principles related to resolving technical anomalies of moderate scope & complexity; Ability to work with people in a cohesive manner to resolve technical issues; Effective written & verbal communication skills; Ability to contribute to project milestones to meet commitments in order to preclude schedule impacts; Ability to perform duties with limited supervision to achieve successful results; Able to work on teams to perform technical assignments.
