Job Description

Computer Numerical Controls or CNC Mill and CNC lathe set up with some programming knowledge. Desired skills Journeyman certification Specific Job Description This work consists of the following: The set up open set-up, programming when needed, editing of existing programs as required, and operation of Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) equipment as assigned. The setup and operation of one or more automatic numerical control machines as assigned. Must have State approved journeyman machinist card or equivalent. Must have a complete set of machinist tools. Operator is responsible for the proper care and use of machine, material and equipment, as well as following instructions. The design and automatic features of these machines, permit the operation of more than one machine or subsequent operations. During cycle time, the operator may be required to do other duties related to their job assignment. May be required to direct and instruct others on this work. Must know shop mathematics, the characteristics of various metals and be able to secure certain information from prints as required. Checks proper sizes, fits, and finishes as required and record results on paper and or electronic shop floor collection forms. Is responsible for the orderliness of working areas and the following of approved shop procedures. All special tools, precision measuring instruments and equipment are furnished. Coordinates with programmer and supervision as required on this work. Must set up and locate fixtures and work-holding devices, load and unload work fixtures and devices, load and unload tools in drum, load and unload CNC programs, as required. May be required to adjust cutting tools as required to maintain dimensions due to tool wear and reground tools. Works as tool setter, with programmer and supervision, when required. May assemble tools and fixtures as assigned, and make basic machine adjustments and operational/preventive repair. Employees must be able to move parts anywhere within work area, as required. Must also do general maintenance to equipment, and cleanup to maintain the work area in an orderly condition. Operator is exposed to typical machine shop conditions. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Operator also performs precision boring of complicated fabricated machine tool parts, jigs, dies and fixtures, used in production and tooling for manufacturing and assembly. This work must be very accurate with very little or no tolerance allowed. Operator should require a minimum of supervision. Must be able to make set-ups and grind tools. Must use proper feeds, speeds, coolant, or lubricant. Employees must be able to move parts anywhere within work area, as required. Operator must also do general maintenance to equipment, and cleanup to maintain the work are in an orderly condition.
