Consumer & Marketing Analytics Function


At Lincoln there is a huge opportunity to improve end customer experience and engagement through better design and integration of products, channels and touch points – both online and offline. The mandate of this new team is to enable a marketing and customer experience transformation by supporting the creation of marketing strategies and capabilities based on customer insights, preferences, attitudes and behaviors.

The group is also partnering with Enterprise IT and Business stakeholders to develop a shared data analytics capability for Lincoln’s Retirement Plan Services (RPS) and Group Protection business units.

By gaining an understanding of the end consumer Lincoln aims to create an increased level of personalization and relevancy with its interactions with its customers, both buyers and sellers – all based on a foundation of data and analytics.

The charter of this newly-developed group at Lincoln is responsible for identifying effective strategies for engaging and marketing to consumers, building and owning consumer data systems and running data analytics for targeting consumers. The team is also leading the development of “test and learn” capability that will support both businesses.


The Role


The AVP, Data & Analytics Infrastructure under the Consumer & Marketing Analytics group will provide technical leadership, direction, and functional expertise to design and develop consumer data assets with an enterprise vision. S/he will collaborate with key stakeholders to understand the analytical deliverables and priorities. The AVP will work with Enterprise Architecture and IT teams to create a roadmap to deliver on short term and strategic data needs for consumer and marketing analytics.

The AVP will also identify analytics infrastructure and tools that are required to set up the Marketing reporting and analytics practices specific to the BUs being supported and will help build momentum on specific use cases. The AVP will also help in sizing and estimation of the infrastructure and resource needs and translate that into investment/budget requirements for the group. S/he will also help in defining a data governance framework to establish data quality and usage norms.




  • Collaborates with IT & other key stakeholders to evaluate current state of data and develop tactical plans to improve data management and resolve technical challenges impeding data availability, quality and credibility
  • Performs evaluation of different tools and database technology and makes recommendations to the IT and business partners
  • Works with Business stakeholders to understand data and infrastructure needs to then build and deliver tools and data assets for Consumer and Marketing Analytics
  • Carves out a strategic agenda for key customer-facing initiatives in the buying experience and service experience domains. Enables customer research and insights to acquire new customers and better meet the needs of existing customers
  • Works closely with the Analytics team to enable strategies & programs that leverage metrics & predictive analytics to support business objectives like profitability & persistency.
  • Provides strategic consulting to senior management & key business stakeholders on acquisition approaches & opportunities based on quality business analytics, tools, and market information
  • Provides subject matter expertise and thought leadership on analysis and use of tools & metrics to significantly affect the strategic direction of the business
  • Partners with IT to help develop & implement a business analytic framework for data quality and governance
  • Guides the development of applications, systems, technical and product standards based on long range plans and vision.  In coordination with the Architecture group, researches and makes recommendations relative to new technologies.
  • Delivers artifacts, technical alternative documents and architectural design that meet business requirements; oversees design reviews and frameworks
  • Develops and implements strategic process improvements to enable simplified, effective, standardized analytical processes
  • Advises senior management and key stakeholders on design issues, capabilities, and/or system limitations; develops and recommends remediation plans





  • 4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelors) in Information Technology, Engineering, Marketing, Economics or Mathematical discipline
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • SAS Certification / Statistical or Analytics courses (preferred)






  • 10+ Years’ experience in designing, developing and operationalizing data and analytics infrastructure strategy within the Financial Services industry,
  • Technology experience in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
  • Strong knowledge of databases and related concepts and working knowledge in overseeing the delivery and build of large scale databases and enterprise data assets
  • Strong technical knowledge and working exposure to a wide array of technology and data stacks in both traditional and big data space e.g. Oracle, Greenplum, Netezza, Hadoop etc
  • Experience working with IT Architects supporting the design & implementation of large scale data bases and decision infrastructure
  • Experience evaluating, designing and end to end setting up of BI and Analytics tools/platforms on an enterprise scale
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience on analytic tools (SAS/SPSS/R) and visualization/BI tools (Tableau/Qlik/Datameer,others) with a deep understanding of the use cases associated with the insurance industry
  • Worked with the analytics teams on creating a roadmap to define and deliver metrics & insights to develop and optimize business strategies) in marketing analytics, Customer Experience/ Customer Insights and/or customer strategy or a related field
  • Proven experience and understanding of how to develop and deliver data assets and infrastructure
