Job Description

Position Summary: Thermo Fisher Scientific's Environmental and Process Monitoring business unit in Franklin, MA develops and manufactures instrumentation for measuring air pollutants, both gas and aerosol. This cooperative education position within the Software Engineering group in the Research and Development/Engineering Department supports software engineers developing firmware for new products. This position requires a person learning software development and engineering who is interested in the development of embedded software for analytical instrumentation running Linux. The student will be responsible for design, coding and testing Linux-based software for embedded instruments. Key Responsibilities: Support software engineers in the design, documentation, development and testing of Linux-based firmware for analytical instrumentation projects. Develop software algorithms and data structures as required. Support instrument graphical user interface (GUI) design as required. Follow company code style, revision control, configuration management, and documentation standards. Desired Qualifications: Student working towards Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or other related science or engineering field C++ programming experience Familiarity with the Linux operating system Experienced with Microsoft Office products Familiarity with SNMP, MySQL, Qt or googletest a plus Familiarity with source control systems such as SVN and bug tracking databases such as Bugzilla or BugTracker a plus.
