The Budget Analyst I position is a professional position in the Financial Planning and Budgeting Office that works with faculty and administrative staff in the administration of budgets related to expenditures and revenue accounts. The functions of this position is to review, analyze, and interpret financial data, provide effective analysis and feedback about budgetary problems, make recommendations for the future expenses, and assist in the implementation of new ideas. Also, reviews budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with university guidelines, and ensure appropriate training of the University community in budget/finance related policies and procedures.

This position reports to the Budget Analyst II.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, political science, public administration, or statistics, or appropriate combination of education and experience in a budget office.

2. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software is required.

3. This position requires an individual who is able to work under strict time constraints.

4. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for this position.

5. Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan

6. Individual must not be convicted of, or pled nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of federal, state, or local government funds, or be administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or any other material violation of law involving federal, state, or local government funds (CFR 668.14(b)(18)(i))

Preferred Qualifications

1. Two years' experience in finance or accounting related field and familiarity with Banner or similar system.

2. Fluent in Spanish or American Sign Language
