Job Description

The Analyst will provide end user support services to faculty, staff and students on the use of Research Computing hardware and software as well as scientific applications. Responsibilities of this position will include, creating and maintaining training materials for Research Computing related software and hardware, conducting training, installing, upgrading and maintain scientific software and communicating information pertaining to scientific software upgrades and installations.

Accountabilities:

* Provide end user support and consulting services relating to the effective use of research computing applications
* Support Research Computing users with scientific programming efforts via a ticketing system, email and phone to make efficient use of Research Computing resources
* Implement, configure, secure, maintain, and support Research Computing software resources including, but not limited to various commercial and open source scientific codes, libraries, or applications on Research Computing resources
* Assist users in connecting to Research Computing resources through secondary applications such as emulation programs
* Resolve software, hardware, networking and storage problems relating to Research Computing systems and applications
* Work with clients to properly submit computer jobs through Batch computing and High Throughput systems such as SLURM and Condor
* Work as a support member of the Research Computing Steering Committee by maintaining agendas, meeting minutes and communication mechanisms
* Provide training and documentation on the use of Research Computing hardware and software and scientific applications
* Introduce Research Computing users and the general Lehigh research community to new technologies, develop and design training programs, workshops and seminars based on user needs in conjunction with other Library and Technology Service units on campus
* Assist and encourage faculty with the use of Research Computing resources in the classroom
* Develop, maintain and deliver documentation on the use of Research Computing hardware and scientific software
* Administers computing platforms in a backup capacity
* Monitor batch queuing, accounting and scheduler systems on Research Computing clusters and resolve client problems related to submitting compute jobs through the batch computing systems
* Prepare monthly reports on usage of Research Computing resources
* Monitor account creation, charging models and backup procedures
* Install operating system software, patches, and upgrades as needed to maintain an acceptable level of functionality, security, and performance
* Maintain historical records by documenting system software changes and revisions
* Assist in system administration under guidance of the Senior Analyst in a backup capacity with responsibilities including but not limited to system recovery procedures in event of system failure, disaster recovery procedures if required in event of site failure, monitor performance, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve system hardware, software, and networking issues of assigned systems
* Under the guidance of the Manager of Research Computing and the Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL), work on special projects related to the implementation of the Strategic Plan and University initiatives
* Perform other tasks assigned by Manager of Research Computing and Director of CITL including Professional and Workforce development

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree; Master's degree preferred
* Doctoral Degree in a Computational Science or Engineering field such as Physics, Chemistry, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is desired
* Three to five years related work experience
* Experience using computing resources for research is required
* Experience in one or more programming languages such as Fortran, C and C++ is required
* One or more parallel programming paradigms such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA or OpenACC is required
* Experience in one or more scripting languages such as bash, Perl, Python, R etc is desired
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Excellent writing ability and organizational skills
* Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
* Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position

Special Considerations:

* Frequent evening and weekend work; possible emergency or occasional system maintenance work
* Occasional travel to attend training
