Job Description

Position Overview

Legg Mason's Compliance Analytics Team and Blockchain Working Group in Baltimore, MD is currently seeking a Summer Intern. The team consists of forward thinking individuals who are using technology to identify potential risks and opportunities through technology, such as data mining, AI, blockchain and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist the Compliance Analytics Team with the quality control review of data received and the uploading of that data to an Oracle database environment.
* Assist the Blockchain Working Group in projects to evaluate adoption and revenue generating opportunities in the digital asset space
* Using Business Intelligence tools and scripting languages to assist the team with data mining and data translation techniques to create meaningful and effective summaries, statistics and tests. Emphasis on identifying trends, changes in trends, exceptions or statistical outliers to assist the firms compliance professionals with identifying and mitigating risks
* Assist the team with the analysis of results and their presentation to compliance managers and senior management using visualization tools, exception reports and dashboards
* Development - Tasks requiring the programming or scripting of new system functions
* Testing - Executing programs using predefined business cases against a test environment for purposes of debugging code or system testing applications
* Technology documentation - Tasks requiring creation of written documentation tracking changes in system production environments
* Running ad-hoc analyses and reporting requests as needed

Qualifications:

* Should be pursuing a MBA or MS in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Finance, Economics or related area.
* Knowledge of how to work a problem from beginning to end with data science tools and techniques, including SQL, R, Python, or Scala.
* Experience with programming languages, mathematical modeling, applied economics, cryptography or related skill sets.
* Experience with Oracle databases preferred, with knowledge/experience of reporting packages, Business Objects, and Tableau.
* Technical knowledge of database design, data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
* Able to discuss and coordinate with industry compliance experts to interpret coding needs and offer technology solutions.
* Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment that experiences a lot of change/heavy volume.
* Able to be innovative. Displays original thinking and creativity. Meets challenges with resourcefulness. Develops new approaches and ideas.
* Aptitude for data and mathematical analysis.
* Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
* Understanding of blockchain, cryptocurrency, operational security and applied economics.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Professional demeanor with the ability to interact with all levels of employees.
