Job Description

The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49.00 will be charged for fingerprinting.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist teachers in improving reading, math, or science skills of middle school age students

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

* Uphold school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
* Work with individual students on targeted instruction in reading for 20 minutes per student 4-5 days a week.
* Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
* Work collaboratively with teachers in development of individual instructional plans for students.
* Maintain extreme degree of confidentiality by following the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for student information and by following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) for employee and student information.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education/Certification/Experience:

* 48+ college hours preferred
* 12+ college hours required
* Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Work well with youth.

* Discern where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment
* Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
* The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
* Ability to maintain regular attendance

Mental Demands:

* Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
* Resolve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Environment:

* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
