Science and Technology on a Mission!

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Post College Appointee (PCA) position to support the Virtual Beamline (VBL) project. You will work with Computer Scientists within the NIF Computing Applications (NIFC) Division to develop the VBL code base and user interfaces.

Essential Duties

* Develop C++ and Qt graphical user interfaces.
* Develop user interface testing methods.
* Contribute to the development of HPC algorithms for laser simulations.
* Contribute novel user interface design ideas to support laser physics simulation software.
* Document complex research and development progress via technical reports.
* Perform other duties as assigned.


* Recent B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, or Physics with Computer Science coursework (within two years of application).
* Demonstrated effective verbal and communication skills.
* Ability to contribute as part of a software development team and possess significant experience developing C++ applications.
* Experience in C++, Qt, and using Python and/or other scripting languages.

Desired Qualifications

* Demonstrated knowledge in high-performance computing.
* Demonstrated knowledge in benchmarking and evaluation of systems.
* Demonstrated knowledge of user interface design, development, and testing.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level: None.

Note: This is a one-year Post College Appointee with the possibility of extension to a maximum of two years. Eligible candidates are recent graduates within two years of the month of the bachelor's or master's degree at the time of the employment offer.
