Job Description

LSAC is a nonprofit organization devoted to furthering quality, access, and fairness in law school admission by providing the core products and services that candidates and law schools depend upon in the US and around the world. Each year, LSAC helps over 60,000 law school candidates navigate the admission process, administers the LSAT to over 100,000 world-wide test takers, provides the essential admission software and data relied upon by over 220 member law schools, presents dozens of national forums to help candidates and law schools connect, and supports the nation's prelaw network. The LSAT is the premier standardized test of critical reasoning skills that are fundamental for success in law school and in a wide range of careers. LSAT Layout Specialist

Job Code: LS - CJ

Provides composition and layout for all LSAT programs. Formats include: paper, electronic/tablet, large-type, and Spanish. May handle the production of scannable forms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LAYOUT

  • Formats all versions of the LSAT according to rigid specifications and security measures.
  • Formats other documents as required, including PDFs.

QUALITY CONTROL

  • Reviews proofs of documents to ensure correct composition and layout.
  • Proofreads documents for accuracy as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Works under the supervision of the Senior Director of Test Development. Accountable for ensuring accuracy of all output, paying close attention to all details, maintaining strict security and confidentiality of LSAT materials, balancing multiple priorities, and meeting tight deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

College degree is required. Advanced knowledge of IBM-based desktop publishing and database publishing desirable; knowledge of InDesign/Ventura Publisher desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Knowledge of QuarkXpress helpful. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and/or other style manuals preferred.

Understanding of page construction and layout required.

Must be extremely detail-oriented and organized; working with a high degree of accuracy. Must be comfortable with handling high stakes, confidential material.

Must be team-oriented, possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people in a service-oriented environment, and be willing to work extra hours if needed to
meet a deadline. Must be cognizant of impending deadlines, many of which overlap.

Must be able to handle a heavy workload, extreme deadline pressure, and conflicting demands.
