Job Description

Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Analyst II – SOC Cyber Security is to perform an in-depth analysis of alerts sent to them for the Level I analysts. This role will also work with assigned technology and performs computer forensics. This Level II analyst is a member of the cyber security operations team and works closely with other team members in support of a comprehensive security program and incident response processes. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s policies, practices, and procedures.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor, evaluate, and assist with the maintenance of assigned security systems in accordance with industry best practices to safeguard internal information systems and databases.
  • Analyze escalated email events including phishing and malware, and escalate as necessary.
  • Analyze and quickly escalate events and incidents to SOC Analyst Level 3 for response and resolution.
  • Assist in event and incident response as needed.
  • Prepare event and incident documentation as needed
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the current vulnerabilities, response, and mitigation strategies used to support cyber security operations.
  • Provide concise event reports.
  • Create and report metrics as assigned.
  • Work closely with all Global SOC team members.
  • Perform in depth analysis of all alerts that are escalated from SOC Analyst Level I
  • Conduct in depth analysis of alerts from filtered appliances and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and packet inspection techniques.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization to work in the United States

  • Associate’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent in relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in identifying and responding to alerts and anomalous activity detection.
  • At least four years of hands on experience in configuring and working with technology systems.
  • At least two years’ experience in security operations preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Nevada Gaming Control Board Registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • Ability to problem solve and correlate information in order to react to an alert or respond to an event.
  • Technical Certifications: Current, relative industry certifications and continuing education.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with the global team.  This position will work with Level 1 and Level 3 analysts regularly and with various levels of management frequently.
  • Understanding of common network traffic, i.e., Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Internet traffic, and mail.
  • Functional understanding of network protocols, network devices, multiple operating systems, websites, databases, applications and operating systems.
  • Technical knowledge of mainstream operating systems and a wide range of security technologies, such as network security appliances, anti-malware solutions, automated policy compliance tools, and desktop security tools.
  • Experience using, configuring and installing information security applications.
  • Hands-on experience with McAfee security suite of applications or similar equipment and applications is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with industry best practice surveillance tools for networks, hosts, databases, applications and operating systems.
  • Functional understanding of encryption technologies and their configuration.
  • Understanding of key management and the software that supports it.
  • Expert understanding of cyber threats and the associated tactics, techniques, and procedures used to infiltrate computer networks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of alerts from many different security and network sources with the ability to do in-depth analysis and quickly correlate all of these coming to a decision of action or no action.
  • Experience in working with one of the following platforms is preferred: IBM iSeries, Linux, and MS Windows.
  • Ability to assess network activity and system configuration for anomalous activity to determine system security status.
  • Ability to quickly discern when to act and when to escalate to a Level 3 analyst.
  • Work in a team environment. Assist team members when needed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Provide off-hours support on an infrequent, but as needed basis. (Potential shifts may run 24/7 due to the need of the business.)
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Lift or carry 20 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.

  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
