About Kettering Medical Center Network

Weight Loss Surgery at Kettering Medical Center and Kettering Medical Center-Sycamore Hospitals provides a comprehensive, compassionate approach to weight loss. Free information sessions are offered twice monthly to outline how the program works and explain the surgeries and other treatments available. Anyone interested in learning more is welcome, and we encourage each attendee to bring family members or friends. At the session, you will be introduced to members of our bariatric team, including RNs and dietitians. You will meet other team members such as surgeons, exercise physiologists, and licensed behavioral health therapists during pre-surgery program elements. Each team member plays a vital role in helping patients achieve their goals of weight loss and better health, and they're glad to explain their involvement and answer your questions. The information session will also cover topics such as the history of bariatrics at Kettering and KMC-Sycamore, risks of obesity, benefits and risks of surgery and insurance and financial considerations. At the session, you will be invited to schedule a one-on-one consultation with the Program Manager to discuss your specific needs, goals and concerns. During this consultation, team members will help you explore available treatments, including surgical and non-surgical options, and the Program Manager/RN will obtain a brief medical history. The goal of this consultation is to ensure all of your questions are addressed and you have the information you need to make a confident decision regarding your best course of treatment. If you decide that surgery is right for you, the program coordinator will contact your preferred surgeon and set up an initial visit. The coordinator will also arrange individual evaluations with a dietitian, exercise physiologist, and psychologist. These appointments are part of our comprehensive pre- and post-surgery support program, which is designed to help you feel comfortable and well-informed during every stage of your life-changing journey. Support groups are an essential ingredient for success. Our Weight Loss Surgery program hosts two support group meetings each month, and patients are urged to attend at least one per month for one year. However, attendance at support group sessions for up to three or more years has proven to be extremely beneficial to past patients. Meetings are facilitated by bariatric team members and address different aspects of surgery, allow participants to share their experiences, and include plenty of time for questions and discussion. Program participants are welcome to attend support group meetings as often and for as long as they like. If you'd like to learn more, please call 937-433-KWLS (5957) to register for one of our information sessions. It's time to start living again. This is essential if any related health concerns or emergencies arise.
