Job Description


Manages day-to-day operation of research project under direction of Principal Investigator, to assure project objectives are met within budgetary limitations. Coordinates research project(s) to assure compliance with protocol, budget and timelines.

Essential Responsibilities:

Assists with protocol development, implementation and changes across CHRH/KP departments, other institutions and project coordinating center. Assists with development of research project timeline, procedures, forms, scripts, manuals and tracking systems. Coordinates administrative, technical and scientific day-to-day operations of study to assure project goals and timelines are met, quality data is collected and managed, and participant and/or data is confidential. Develops a high functioning project team. Participates in regional and national project meetings and conference calls. Acts as functional lead for project staff.

Administers grant/contract per federal rules and regulations and/or specific grant/contract language. Manages operational budget and sub-contracts. Authorize payment of study related bills. Works with CHRH finance department and funding agency to assure budget and reporting compliance. Coordinates development of continuation budget. Consults on development of new proposal budgets. Assists in preparation of project reports for PI review and approval.

Oversees work of project staff. Coordinates and participates in all project meetings and conference calls. Acts as a functional lead.

Coordinates development of quality assurance procedures. Monitors data collection and data transfers in accordance with CHRH policies and procedures. Coordinates work of project investigators and other data quality control experts in development and implementation of quality assurance procedures. Monitors data collection and works with research analysts in monitoring data transfers in accordance with CHRH policies and procedures. In conjunction with PI and IRB Administrator, Assures compliance with all Human Subjects rules and regulations. Prepares annual IRB reviews.

Summarizes and shares project information with other sites. Coordinates center of project that will be useful for future projects as well as project at hand. Develops and writes procedures per protocol guidelines. Maintains contact with Kaiser providers and/or others throughout Region as needed for project. Assists with writing papers. Tracks papers in process, and assists with planning for project papers and posters presented at National and International conferences.

If not licensed, may perform simple clinical tasks, not requiring licensure, after being deemed competent. Completes required training(s) and demonstrates skills to ensure participant safety (this excludes medication administration).

If licensed, may perform to the full scope of their licensure and as deemed competent.

Basic Qualifications:


Minimum one (1) year of experience in research project assistance and/or project management related experience.


Bachelor's degree in a health care related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

License, Certification, Registration


Additional Requirements:

Working knowledge of medical and health care issues to communicate effectively and collaborate with senior managers and/or principal investigators.

Working knowledge of budget management and development.Thorough knowledge of scientific research and methodology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years social, behavioral, medical, or health services research experience.

One (1) year supervisory/lead experience to include coordinating/directing.
