We are seeking a Usability Researcher to join our Usability and Technology Adoption Team.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Define, plan and execute ethnographic research, usability evaluations, and usability testing in-lab, remotely, and at end user facilities
  • Conduct quantitative in-person and remote usability testing to understand software effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction, analyze user study data, present findings, and make design recommendations. 
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of end-users to gather data through usability testing methods as well as other user-centered design research techniques
  • Analyze user research and make design recommendations for improved system usability
  • Provide expert review of concepts and designs for ease of use, and communicating usability best practices
  • Clearly communicate (using documents and/or presentations) usability testing findings, recommendations, and potential design solutions to developers, designers, and the leadership
  • Create and maintain user personas, task analyses, and additional usability architecture products
  • Investigate, evaluate and recommend new and merging usability techniques, technologies, and process improvements
  • Support development of  high level and/or detailed storyboards, mockups and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
  • Work in partnership with customers to deliver the desired experience on time and within budget
  • Help define the user interface design and wireframes for new and existing products and features to produce an engaging user experience

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field and/or 4 years of equivalent experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience documenting functional requirements, analyzing business processes, and developing business cases to support IT solutions.
Thorough knowledge of policies, practices and systems.
Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards.
Complete understanding and ability to work independently in application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards. 
Full knowledge of industry practices.
Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields.

  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology or related field
  • Experience creating user interface design specifications
  • Experience creating wireframes and prototypes with varying levels of fidelity (paper-based prototypes to functional software prototypes)
  • Software Development experience a plus
  • A minimum of 3 years of usability research experience
  • Examples of past work experience developing user interfaces across a variety of devices including mobile technologies
  • Experience conducting ethnographic research, performing task analyses, creating storyboards, wireframes, visual design specifications, and guidelines
  • Morae, Optimal Workshop or other usability software tool skills
  • Strong understanding of usability practices applied  throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Experience providing, communicating, and tracking usability metrics
  • Demonstrated success designing innovative and user-friendly websites, mobile apps and consumer-facing features
  • Passionate about learning emerging technologies and evolution of Usability design principles across the ever changing landscape of user interfaces and devices
  • Ability to translate complex usability data into easy-to-understand design recommendations
  • Ability to communicate design concepts to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Ability to travel (20%)
  • Strong visual design sense
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including communication of design concepts
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Strong ability to manage through issues and technical challenges
  • Strong ability & flexibility to be an individual contributor, as well as play a key role in a team setting
