About the Job:
Data Center overlays are a hot topic now. The goal here is to build control and data plane infrastructure that enables MPLS overlays in the Data Center, by having a plug-and-play version of MPLS that compute servers can use to create overlays for Virtual Machines, interacting with Top-of-Rack switches. These overlays can then be used for Network Virtualization, Traffic Steering and other use cases.
About the Team:
The team (server team) will consist of two interns, working in conjunction with an existing team (routing team) of protocol and kernel engineers. The server team will write software for use on servers; the routing team is writing software that runs on ToRs and other switches and routers. Together, the two teams will demonstrate the solution as a Proof of Concept, in Juniper and in other venues.
Understand the overall goal, what the function of an overlay is, why MPLS, use cases Understand the existing early prototype, what it does, what it doesn't do but needs to Design the code, the API, the modules, working in conjunction with the routing team Implement the code that goes on the server Test the code - interoperability, correctness, scale, performance Demonstrate the code as a PoC; show the value of MPLS in the DC and the ease of use Document code, especially external APIs Upstream the code to Linux Basic Qualifications:
BS in Engineering or Math, preferably Computer Science or Engineering
Fluent in C/C++ and a language for quick prototyping (Python or Ruby or the like)
Basic knowledge of networking (routing and switching)
Knowledge of Linux networking stack, Linux kernel and app coding
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of open source routing code (any of Quagga, BIRD, OpenBGPD/OSPF, XORP, Zebra)
Experience using networking APIs
Experience upstreaming code to Linux
