Job Description


The Development Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting the Development Office in the implementation of fundraising activities for Joslin Diabetes Center. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Coordinator will provide integral support to the Development Leadership Team and conduct general functions of office management.

Primary responsibilities include managing calendars, drafting correspondence, preparing and distributing reports, executing mailings, and handling all preparations and follow up for meetings, presentations and events with excellent customer service and professionalism.

This is an entry level position considered as a "base" for someone pursuing a career in Development.


* Provide office management, project management, operational and technical support for the Development Office, as needed.
* Assist with the production of a range of development materials, including correspondence for donors and prospective donors, stewardship and solicitation materials, proposals and reports, and briefing materials.
* Provide administrative support to the Chief Development Officer and other members of the Development Leadership Team.
* Develop a strong working knowledge of The Raiser's Edge database, accurately recording correspondence and interactions with donors and prospective donors, and producing requested reports on fundraising activities.
* Act as the primary contact for Development's main phone line and email account, providing answers to questions from donors, prospective donors, faculty and staff. Coordinates back-up coverage with Development Operations staff when needed.
* Support the coordination and implementation of Development events and meetings, including meeting agendas, materials, conference rooms, A/V, minutes and other related support.
* Make travel arrangements, prepare accurate and thorough travel itineraries, and process employee expenses and vendor payments.
* Oversee office supply inventory and maintenance. Regularly order necessary office supplies and arranges maintenance for equipment when needed.
* Sort and deliver incoming and outgoing Development mail.
* Other duties as assigned.


* Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience)
* 0-2 years of administrative experience and/or a combination of intern and volunteer experience preferred
* Strong knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications (preferably The Raisers Edge and Microsoft Office)
* Ability to manage sensitive materials in a confidential manner
* Ability to initiate and organize work, establish priorities in a time-sensitive environment, coordinate multiple projects that may have competing priorities and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality
* Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision
* Ability to work independently and confidentially, and be able to interact with donors, trustees, patients and staff in a professional manner
* Excellent multi-tasking skills
* Clear and effective writing skills
* Must be willing to occasionally work evenings, weekends when necessary
