Job Description

Johnson County Community College, a League for Innovation school, in the Kansas City Metro, is searching for a full-time, Assistant Professor, a faculty member for their Web Development and Digital Media program. This innovative and disruptive career program prepares students with the various skills and techniques utilized by professionals with titles such as website developer, web programmer, web applications developer, web marketing analyst, digital media designer/developer, UX & UI designer, Front-end developer, Front-end React JS developer, and JavaScript developer.

We are ideally seeking a person who has experience working with students and faculty of diverse backgrounds, and who possesses a thorough understanding of user experience design methodology and theories. Candidates with expertise in interaction design, information architecture, visual design, user research, usability, visual and critical abilities, strong fundamentals, innovative methodologies and integration of new technologies to complement the current strengths of the Web Development and Digital Media program are desired.

The Assistant Professor, Web Development and Digital Media position requires a faculty team member whose role is to instruct at all levels of the curriculum for students seeking the AAS degree or certificates in Web Development and Digital Media. This position requires an individual who embraces the vision of the Web Development and Digital Media program, contemporary design and development practices, pedagogy, innovation, collegiality, and collaboration.

The position requires an energetic, creative, self-motivated person who has demonstrated proven teaching, leadership and communication skills.

A successful candidate will:

* Teach courses in interactive media practice and theory, with emphasis on visual storytelling and interface/user experience design
* Teach fundamental digital media courses and will be expected to cultivate and maintain a network of professional contacts
* Perform other duties expected of full-time faculty; including maintaining scheduled office hours, student advising and recruiting; developing and revising curriculum, developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in college, division, and department meetings, serving on committees and other duties as assigned.
* Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with a wide variety of academic departments on campus
* Teach courses as specified in the faculty contract using a variety of methodologies and modes of learning
* Use learning management systems to provide online course content and interaction/communication with students
* Develop and coordinate curriculum to improve student success and retention and to meet the changing educational needs of students
* Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for the purpose of assisting, advising, and mentoring students enrolled in program courses
* Collaborate with a program advisory committee which consists of working professionals in the field of graphic technology/web design/development
* Collaborate with faculty and staff on department, division and campus-wide projects
* Participate in all other tasks related to instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College policies

Experience in digital post-production and/or shooting, editing, and producing online video packages will be advantageous. Teaching assignments may be day, evening, or weekend, and are subject to change as needed.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree in Web Design, Web Development, Computer Programming, Web Technologies, Graphic Information Technology or related field with 2+ years of directly-related professional experience within the web development and digital media industry

Must be proficient in the following:

* UX/UI Sketching / Whiteboarding
* Storyboarding
* Decision Mapping
* User Flow Diagrams
* Paper Prototyping
* Digital Prototyping
* JavaScript

Preferred Skills

* Master's degree in related field
* Adobe CC Suite
* Media design skills with emphasis on information and communication design
* Social media development principles with a client focus
* Writing and developing social media content
* Ability to utilize traditional and evolving technologies that support the creative process and the industry such as story-telling, motion graphics; interactive media, user-experience design, prototyping/development

Required Experience

* Professional design/development experience
* Experience designing or developing for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices
* Proficiency with HTML and CSS
* Applied knowledge of other design / development technologies
* Interest in partnering with industry
* Interest in leadership opportunities

Preferred Experience

* Teaching experience
* Experience creating training or instructional materials
* Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and collaborative leadership abilities
