What you will do

This internship is a pre-entry level engineering position joining the team that develops firmware for Building Automation System Equipment Controls products used by our customers to run their buildings and manage their energy costs. Work as part of a team under the close direction of experienced engineers to apply and enhance your engineering development skills to develop, test, and support smart embedded control related products for the Building Automation System Global Controls Products business.

How you will do it:

* Learning about the general system components and requirements of the Johnson Controls Building Automation System Global Controls Products business.
* Assisting development team with firmware development assignments including tools, small projects, bug fixes, and product development work.
* Assisting development team with firmware testing and troubleshooting defects.
* Designing, building, and setting up the automated test configurations required to execute the assigned test plans.


What we look for

Required Qualifications:

* Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university
* Working on B.S. in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering
* Demonstrate an ability to learn quickly and independently
* Experience with C/C++ coding
* Working knowledge of real-time design and embedded operating systems
* Available to work 10 hrs or more/week during the school year and 40 hrs/week during summer
* U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.


* Python programming experience
* Experience with 32-bit microcontroller architecture
* Software Debugging experience in IAR development environment
* Object Oriented Analysis / Design / Programming
* Development on the Linux OS Environment
* Experience with Git/GitHub, CMake, Automated Test tools
* Experience with software communications protocols
* Knowledge of embedded controls HW, circuits, HW development and debugging tools
* U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.
