The Software Engineer has responsibility for coding, testing and maintaining software for a new breakthrough handheld spectrometer and for a new on-line spectrometer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsibility to deliver high quality software solutions; take a role in ensuring the software meets its functional, performance and quality goals
- Testing and maintaining software code and platforms
- Work with product development team to develop and improve mathematical models and model transfer protocols
- Work with hardware development team to define protocols and command sets and to develop interface between custom hardware and iOS, Android and Windows-based devices
- Participate in full software development lifecycle which includes requirements, analysis, design, coding, unit testing, and maintenance, with primary emphasis on the later, as part of the spectroscopy team Required Qualifications Required Qualifications and Experience
- Software development in C# and C, other languages considered
- Software testing of GUI and SDK
- System testing i.e. software, hardware, networks
- Algorithms
- Mathematical analysis and statistics
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Science and/or Engineering
- Computer Science element to the degree, more than -an introduction to python', but not necessarily a CS major, our product has scientific applications and may require a slightly broader knowledge than a CS major
- Candidate who has seen and understand the full life cycle of software development -- planning, design, development, testing, customer support and sustaining
- Candidate who has worked with electronic hardware
Desired Qualifications
- Candidate who makes things e.g. someone that has developed a gadget from Arduino, Raspberry Pi or Beagle Bone Black
- Candidate who is willing to say -I don't know but I can find out'
- Willing to learn
- Candidate who can analyze and then do, i.e. not all analyze, but someone who thinks before they jump
- Candidate who can work on multiple projects, in multiple programming languages concurrently
- Candidate who can communicate with non-developer subject matter experts e.g. Optical Engineers and Scientists, Hardware Engineers, NIR and Chemometrics experts, i.e. to understand needs and to provide feedback
- Interest in Science: Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics
What This Position is Not:
- While some understanding of web technologies may be advantageous, this role is not focused on web development, someone looking to make a career or gain experience in this area will be disappointed
- Likewise, some mobile development may be pursued but will not be the primary focus of this role
