Job Description

This position involves the design, development and post-release maintenance of database data structures and database facing codebase for new and existing products in the software portfolio. The DBA position will join the Back Office team to work on a variety of software solutions. The majority of engineering work performed in this role will be targeting MySQL variants such as MariaDB. Approximately 30% of all projects will focus of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL based back ends

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain data structures supporting new product development initiatives
  • Develop high quality, highly scalable SQL queries/stores procedures to support reporting and
  • Design and develop SQL data structures needed to support new development efforts (including keys, indexes, triggers and stored procedures)
  • Develop code supporting ETL operations
  • Manage database security
  • Monitor database server activity and utilization across a large distributed farm of database engines numbering in the hundreds of Servers
  • Verify scripts and automated tasks are completing successfully, and correct if not
  • Produce technical specifications
  • Document processes and procedures
  • Conducts performance tuning of indexes
  • Trouble-shoot poor performing queries and stored procedures
  • Create unit tests for code developed by self and others
  • Conduct and participate in training sessions
  • Identify and recommend process improvements
  • Accurately estimate level of effort and forecast completion targets

Education and Experience

  • Deep level of understanding of MySQL and its internals (4 years of prior work experience)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server is a plus
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL is a plus
  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise class (large tables, complex table structures, highly available) databases
  • Experience with high-availability methods such as clustering, active/active, replication, etc.
  • Extensive experienced trouble-shooting database performance
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to changing events and competing priorities
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • BS in Computer Science preferred

Skills

  • Deep understanding of relational databases and relevant design patterns
  • Basic familiarity with PHP, VB.NET and/or C#
  • Strong knowledge of profiling and monitoring tools for MySQL, Microsoft SQL and PostgreSQL
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)
  • Working knowledge of Git based version control systems
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally
  • Openness to change and new ideas
  • Readiness to make design decisions and ability to articulate the reasons behind your choices
  • Excellent problem solving skills
