Job Description

Great growing organization is seeking Software Development Engineer in Test (SDETs) who move fast, are capable of breaking down and solving complex problems, and have a strong will to get things done. SDETs here own their systems end to end and influence the direction of our technology that impacts our customers.

A sampling of duties includes:

  • Build and maintain automation scripts
  • Create test plans, templates and strategies for test automation
  • Maintain automated test tools and continuous integration systems
  • Execute and interpret test automation results
  • Execute manual tests when needed
  • Prepare reports documenting test execution results
  • Perform both manual and automation tests on web based applications and micro services
  • Engage in project planning to identify test automation opportunities and promote its usage
  • Build black and White Box test automation that is effective, fast, robust, and maintainable using tools such as Selenium Web Driver and Junit.
  • Participate in product and feature design with developers, usability specialists, user interface designers, and product managers
  • Work to reduce product bugs through better tooling, monitoring, and automation
  • Partner with software development engineers and test engineers to help devise automation and test strategies including test case development to drive the software development process towards quality-centric methodologies (TDD, BDD, ATDD)
  • Collaborate with DevOps team to help ensure our test frameworks and methodologies are leveraged as part of Sterling's continuous integration strategies
  • Perform automated tests on SOAP and REST services using tools such as SOAP UI Pro, JMeter, Postman etc.
  • Analyze requirements, develop test plan strategies, create and execute test cases, track defects
  • Develop easy-to-use test tools to assist developers and manual test engineers
  • Build platforms (test, monitoring, build, configuration management, etc) to help the organization scale the development process
  • Work cross functionally in an Agile/Scrum environment alongside Development and Product Management to deliver high quality solutions
  • Other duties as assigned

To be successful; you should possess most of the following:Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of software engineering experience, demonstrating experience in scalable software design and development (preferably using Java/C#, SQL and XML)
  • 3+ years' experience developing automated frameworks and running automated tests
  • 5+ years of testing software experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Object Oriented Design, Service Oriented Architecture and Design Patterns
  • Skilled at testing and automating both SOAP and REST services (SOAP UI, Postman, Selenium)
  • Experience data driving API test automation scripts (Selenium or SOAP UI)
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL and ability to automate Back End systems
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make technical decisions, recommendations, and conclusions based upon data
  • Experience creating and running Test Suites and Test Cases with Selenium 2.0
  • Experience working with Selenium WebDriver

At least 1 or more of the following is a plus:

  • Experience with Gherkin and Groovy Scripting
  • Experience with Behavior Driven Development (BDD) or Test Driven Development (TDD) in test script/framework automation using open source tools such as Cucumber, Watir and Appium and/or Selenium
  • Knowledge of AWS environments and services
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous deployment
  • Strong proficiency in web-based technologies including AJAX, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, JSON, RESTful services and similar related technologies
  • Strong intuition for both manual and automated testing
  • Experience with White Box as well as Black Box testing
  • Good organizational skills with an eye for the details
  • Experience working with offshore/near shore teams
  • Results driven, thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative, fast paced and one that is going through high growth, even when faced with ambiguity
  • Knowledge of SDLC & Agile (Scrum methodology)
  • Innovative, self-motivated, possessing excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, related technical discipline or equivalent education or training
