Job Description

Solid expanding company is building out a local team and is seeking to add a Sr. MySQL Engineer. This is an immediate need and the Hiring Manager will interview this week!

Here you will be responsible for the design, development and post-release maintenance of database data structures and database facing codebase for new and existing products in the software portfolio. You will join the Back Office team to work on a variety of software solutions. The majority of engineering work performed in this role will be targeting MySQL variants such as MariaDB. Approximately 30% of all projects will focus of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL based back ends.

Specific duties include:

  • Design and maintain data structures supporting new product development initiatives
  • Develop high quality, highly scalable SQL queries/stores procedures to support reporting and
  • Design and develop SQL data structures needed to support new development efforts (including keys, indexes, triggers and stored procedures)
  • Develop code supporting ETL operations
  • Manage database security
  • Monitor database server activity and utilization across a large distributed farm of database engines numbering in the hundreds of Servers
  • Verify scripts and automated tasks are completing successfully, and correct if not
  • Produce technical specifications
  • Document processes and procedures
  • Conducts performance tuning of indexes
  • Trouble-shoot poor performing queries and stored procedures
  • Create unit tests for code developed by self and others
  • Conduct and participate in training sessions
  • Identify and recommend process improvements
  • Accurately estimate level of effort and forecast completion targets

To be successful, you should possess most of the following:

  • Deep level of understanding of MySQL and its internals (4 years of prior work experience)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server is a plus
  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise class (large tables, complex table structures, highly available) databases
  • Experience with high-availability methods such as clustering, active/active, replication, etc.
  • Extensive experienced trouble-shooting database performance
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to changing events and competing priorities
  • BS in Computer Science preferred
  • Deep understanding of relational databases and relevant design patterns
  • Basic familiarity with PHP, VB.NET and/or C#
  • Strong knowledge of profiling and monitoring tools for MySQL, Microsoft SQL and PostgreSQL
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)
  • Working knowledge of Git based version control systems
