Job Description

Software Engineer

Client Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Squirrel Hill)

Direct Hire

Manager's Notes:

We are looking for a software engineer (preferably Java) that can build test environments and do integrations. This candidate will not be doing QA Scripting or automation they have QA team's doing this. The thing is that these scripts don't work independently, so this Engineer is challenged with integrating it with other environments/platforms. For example, one product sits on web services, so this Engineer would solve the problems and write the code to make this work.

They will have the opportunity to work with varying technologies like .Net, Java, hybrid, as well as work with other teams like DevOps in order to make it all come together and to work autonomously.

The manager wants the path of least resistance with candidates, so he's open to QA Engineers that want to grow in software development, or Software Developers that want to find solutions to integrate technologies.

  • Doesn't matter what language. Java, .Net, etc., as long as they understand the logic.
  • The manager is over several different departments and they historically hire sharp talent and grow them in within the specific disciplines.
  • This person will join their newly created team; Continuous Integration and Testing Team: Includes Ryan, two other engineers. Have two openings, so slotted for five currently (and will likely grow)
  • Per the manager; You're still writing an application, but it's an application to test something. ie If you're writing an API, it's development to test the API
  • They don't have a fully automated testing framework - seeking to go there.
  • They're really looking for a problem solver. Does not matter if it's Front End versus Back End. A software engineer that wants to write code.
  • Skills with SQL are not that important. The right person will figure things out and grow.
  • They'll reverse engineer code and triage, fix or escalate.

Company Sizzle:

Everything is very Employee Driven - do culture meetings and what would make them a better place to work. Plus, they have Perks like; Fruit delivery twice a week. Casual dress and 40 to 45 hour per week average. People work smart and don't burnout. Some remote work a possibility.
