Job Description

Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to continuously improve the company's quality systems for design and manufacturing to ensure that products meet customer needs and expectations to fulfil corporate objectives. The position involves hands-on quality engineering as well as managing a team of quality engineers and inspectors.

Essential Functions:

    • Lead quality assurance within organization including training & education; develop accountability within the organization; maintain product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies and procedures and government requirements.
        • Create programs on metrology equipment to provide accurate measurements of OEM and IDS parts.
            • Help inspectors with measurements when needed to meet due dates.
                • Administer SPC and issue reports.
                    • Conduct periodic audits of quality systems and issue recommendations.
                        • Manage metrology equipment. Identify gaps in measurement systems and facilitate activities to address those gaps.
                            • Manage team of quality engineers and inspectors. Identify and facilitate training required to increase competency of associates.
                                • Establish in-process product inspection standards by studying manufacturing methods, devising testing methods and procedures.
                                    • Take the lead responsibility for significant quality issues. Be hands on with the issue, develop a plan to resolve the issue, communicate the plan and progress on the plan to the organization.
                                        • Develop metrics to track and improve performance of QC lab and improve customer satisfaction (eg First Article Inspection and Quality Inspection Request turnaround time, SPC implementation, corrective actions etc.)

                                          Additional Responsibilities:

                                            • Develop and maintain quality standards for manufactured and purchased components.
                                                • Establish product quality documentation system by writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
                                                    • Passion for excellent quality; ownership of quality systems; help move company towards zero defects and continuous reduction of variability.
                                                        • Effective communicator and team member; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs and manufacturing and training methods.
                                                            • Establish, track, and improve quality metrics for the organization: cost of quality, such as first time yield, scrap and rework, etc.; prepare product and process quality reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
                                                                • Ensure that products and services meet customer needs and expectations to fulfil corporate quality objectives.
                                                                    • Develop and maintain an effective supplier development system that includes conducting supplier audits.
                                                                        • Develop corrective actions to support supplier problems and failures, suggesting modifications and corrective actions by suppliers to meet customer specifications and standards.

                                                                          Education, Experience and Skills Required:

                                                                            • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent and at least 5 years of related work experience; ASQ CQE preferred.
                                                                                • Experience with Measurement System Analysis, SPC, CAR's, gage design, gage R&R, Process capability studies, control plans, deviant material resolution, design control, design validation, APQP, PPAP.
                                                                                    • Proficiency in GD&T
                                                                                        • High level of competency and proficiency using software tools/systems
                                                                                            • Proficiency in programming and using roundness measurement equipment like Rondcom or Talyrond
                                                                                                • Proficiency with metrology equipment (contact and optical)
                                                                                                    • A good understanding of manufacturing processes (eg metallurgy, machining, assembly and test).
                                                                                                        • High energy level, ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events and reacts well under pressure.
                                                                                                            • Displays willingness to make decisions timely, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and communicates changes effectively.
                                                                                                                • Ability and willingness to lead and motivate others in a positive manner, including coaching others to follow work instructions, achieve standards and reach team goals.
                                                                                                                    • Possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with diverse personalities and individuals in a cross functional team environment as well as others outside the organization.
                                                                                                                        • Team building ability, self motivation, able to work independently.
                                                                                                                            • Includes appropriate people in decision making process and supports/explains reasoning for decisions, resourceful and well organized.
