Job Description


The Area Maintenance Manager will reduce unscheduled downtime for the mill by managing the consistent application of precision skills and practices on planned work orders.  Improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency by focusing on the systems supporting daily execution of planned work.


Responsibilities include:


Manage Maintenance Workforce (Execute Branch)

  • Implement and enforce safety policies and behaviors throughout workforce.

  • Ensure BBS Observations are routinely conducted.

  • Ensure Pre Job Safety Analysis is performed prior to all maintenance related tasks.

  • Ensure all Maintenance areas are 5s and self-audited by champions monthly.

  • Engage team.

  • Partner with the Business Unit Leaders and HR as needed.

  • HR/Time approval for crews

  • Consistently manage vacation policy for the department.

  • Complete one on one with skilled personnel.

  • Coaching - Develop leadership and decision making skills of Front Line Leaders

    • Support and execute the skills training program.

    • Ensure all maintenance personnel are advancing in their certification program.

  • Resource Coordination

    • Coordinate Resources to effectively improve/preserve mill reliability.

    • Ensure all scheduled and unplanned work events are carried out and completed within a timely manner.

    • Ensure resources (either in house or contracted) are scheduled to meet Preventive Maintenance/outage manning needs.

  • Precision Maintenance Execution

    • Ensure Front Line Leaders fulfill MWS roles/responsibilities - Audit

    • Ensure consistent documentation of work

    • Document findings and needs on work orders.

    • Ensure precision maintenance worksheets are used on all executed work on rotating equipment, control valves and instrumentation.

    • Create and Ensure consistent use of procedures

    • Ensure consistent use of maintenance best practices

    • Contract work execute - Integrate contractor work into maintenance crews. Ensure Front Line Leaders own and manage contracted work

    • Precision maintenance quality assurance

  • Work w/ Reliability Leader to improve PM, andPdM .

  • MWS support

  • Drives improvement in reliability principles

  • Partners with OMCs

  • Drives standardization and sustainability

  • E/I Area Manager Champions Drive Projects, IEPM & Valve Program.

  • Manage Maintenance Front Line Leaders

    • Vacation relief - Ensure Front Line Leader roles are adequately filled for vacation or vacancies

  • Support shift maintenance resources

    • Coordinate with FLL Central to fill shift vacancies.

  • Preventive Maintenance Shutdown Execution

    • Develop supervision needs

    • Ensure all preventive maintenance activities are carried out and completed within a timely and safe manner.

    • Ensure PM work instructions are used during each PM event.

    • Ensure PM findings are properly documented and entered into SAP-PM. Ensure planners execute compliance PMs.

  • Any other duties assigned.


Qualifications include:


  • BS Degree (minimum) in Engineering preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience managing maintenance operations.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience managing/supervising people, preferred.

  • Prior experience managing electrical and instrumentation personnel and work in reliability initiatives.

  • Strong skills demonstrated in leadership, engagement, and safety management systems.
