Position Description

Provide support to the mill’s leadership, employees, community and other key stakeholders. The job will consist of executing the mill-wide communications strategy around key manufacturing and business objectives to help drive deliberate and sustainable improvements with consistent messaging across the mill -- and aligned with the Industrial Packaging Group.


Key Accountabilities

  • The position reports directly to the Mill Communications Manager, Pensacola, Fla., and Vicksburg, Miss., with a dotted line reporting to the Mill Manager.

  • Participate in mill-wide meetings and engage with lead team members, area and front line leaders and all other employees.

  • Update regular communications content for IPTV, the mill-wide newsletter, safety and departments

  • Draft IPToday articles and external communications to be approved by the mill communications manager.

  • Serve as a liaison for crisis communications processes and protocols.

  • Work with leadership inside and outside of the mill to implement tactical communications activities.

  • Build relationships with media, write news releases and respond to media inquiries.

  • Participate in community initiatives that support company and mill philanthropic goals including IP Foundation grants, United Way, and other partnerships and affiliations.

  • Host and coordinate mill employee attendance for quarterly business and company webcasts/broadcasts.

  • Support employee engagement and drive alignment among departments, the mill and the business.


Key Challenges

  • Organization of multiple projects and audiences with tight timelines.

  • Effective and timely communications with employees and key stakeholders.

  • Timely response to all stakeholders, especially mill leaders and employees.

  • Working in a 24 hour, 7 days-a-week manufacturing environment.

  • Understanding and knowing labor contracts and union relations.

  • Direct supervisor located off-site.



  • Responsible for supporting communications strategy for 300 employees.

  • The position will be located at the mill with minimum travel.


Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, minimum three years of communications or public relations experience.

  • Demonstrate employee communications and community relations experience.

  • Proven excellent writing, editing, presentation, communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office suite), presentation design, desktop publishing skills.

  • Knowledge of web-based tool development and social media a plus.

  • Organized, creative, detail-oriented, self-starter; ability to effectively multi-task with competing priorities.

  • Internship experience and graphic design skills a plus.
