Job Description

This position involves analyzing the chemical components of various materials (e.g., agrominerals, soil samples, plant tissues, fertilizers). Duties may include:

* Assist in the analyses of various materials related to fertilizers (e.g., splitting, grinding, drying and preparing samples for analysis; labeling, weighing and chemically treating samples; determining the sample compounds using various instruments; analyzing quantitative and qualitative methods of isotopic and non-isotopic fertilizer materials; interpreting data)
* Assisting in setting-up, conducting and monitoring various experiments in cooperation with senior analysts or scientists (e.g., assisting with initiating and harvesting greenhouse experiments, performing quality control and process control analyses for researchers in bench-scale and pilot plant operations, assisting in experiments for the nitrogen program)
* Willingness to perform research projects involving fertilizer and related materials
* Calculating, tabulating and maintaining record of analytical determinations (e.g., entering data into worksheets, preparing experiment reports)
* Maintaining a neat, clean and safe working environment.


This position requires knowledge of qualitative, quantitative and general chemistry to perform fertilizer, plant and soil analyses. This position requires the ability to work meticulously to carryout analyses according to established procedures. This job may involve the following:

* Knowledge of chemistry to properly follow established chemical procedures for analysis in a safe manner
* Ability to operate a computer to enter and tabulate analysis results and prepare summary reports
* Chemistry, Biology, or related field of study
* Preferably current undergraduate juniors or seniors, or recent graduates
* Minimum GPA requirement: 2.5 overall with at least a 2.75 in a related major
* Must be able to make a semester commitment of 20 hrs / week (negotiable)
* Duration 3 - 6 Months
* Proof of medical insurance required
