Job Description

The Experimental Mechanics Lab at Intel identifies and solves thermo-mechanical issues in the field of electronic packaging. The lab personnel use a variety of tools to study the behavior of an electronic package and its constituents under different mechanical and/or thermal loading conditions. These include, but are not limited to, dynamic warpage of package using optics-based tools adhesion strength characterization of various interfaces in a package using Double Cantilever Beam test fracture toughness measurement of bulk materials using three-point bend test and CTE measurement using 3D Digital Image Correlation method. The lab personnel use lab data to influence package design and solve issues encountered during technology development. Routine responsibilities include defining problem statement, formulating experiment design or test strategies, analyzing test data, and presenting/documenting results. Additional responsibilities include developing new custom metrologies for situations where commercial tools/solutions do not exist. The candidate should have a strong background in material characterization and mechanical testing. Observation of all safety procedures and ISO requirements is mandatory. Regular documentation and presentation of results are expected.

The ideal candidate should exhibit the following behavioral traits:

  • Possess good problem solving skills and ability to multitask.
  • Be hands-on and work well in a team.


Minimum Qualifications:-

  • Be pursuing a BS degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in load frames, PID controllers, basic optics, LabView, Matlab, or structural health monitoring.
