Graduate Academic Advisor/Academic Success Coach


This position is a shared position with 50% of the assigned duties as Graduate Advisor in the School of Education and 50% of the position will have assigned duties as Academic Success Coach in the Office of Academic Affairs.

As Graduate Advisor for programs in the School of Education, this person will advise, provide orientation, and maintain academic records for all graduate students in the School of Education. As an Academic Success Coach in the Titan Success Center, this person is primarily responsible for providing academic coaching and transition supports to first year students in the School of Education. This work entails, but is not limited to, registering students into courses; monitoring student progress through their first semesters; assisting students to develop their academic goals; and assisting students who encounter problems or roadblocks to achieving academic success and persistence. The position is also responsible for enrollment reporting, maintaining Education undergraduate AARs and degree maps, some aspects of assessment, and assisting with institutional reporting.

Primary Duties:

Academic coaching for a caseload of approximately 125 first-year students and 140 graduate students enrolled in the School of Education.

Advises, coaches, and monitors the academic performance of all first-year undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate non-degree students in the School of Education about all aspects of academic program planning and scheduling, including personal counseling referrals, graduation, and required standardized testing. Assists with and may organize new student orientations.

Maintains records on student progress, persistence, and retention. Uses data to generate and analyze reports for accreditation and program improvement as requested. Designs and implements programs for student success and retention. Responsible for updating and maintaining program degree maps, program plans, and student AARs in the elementary, secondary, and special education programs.

Serves as liaison between the School of Education and the Titan Success Center, attends relevant meetings, and shares information with faculty, staff, and administration as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

—A Master’s Degree in education or a related area with an emphasis in one of the following areas: higher education, counseling, education, or human services.

—Must have excellent customer service skills, flexible schedule, and expect some evening and weekend work, based on the needs of the TSC and School of Education. The position requires proficiency with computers and an ability to learn fundamental workings of content management systems. Daily work also requires extensive use of the Microsoft Office Suite and database(s). Experience using PeopleSoft and Canvas required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advising experience or related higher education experience, or experience teaching in a K-12 setting is preferred.
