Basic Function and Scope of the Position:

The Regional Channel Development Manager is responsible for seeing that channel recruitment and sales enablement objectives are met for Illumina’s Channel Partners and any of their subsidiaries.  This position works closely with the field sales partner account managers to exceed revenue targets, expand to new territories and drive strategic opportunities and initiatives in emerging markets.  Responsible for executing external and internal enablement programs and training of both teams to enhance our channel partners in a specified region. This position requires a high degree of cross-functional support and organizational skills, creativity and critical thinking, and proven written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work closely with field teams in a remote setting. 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Aid region in the recruitment process to include: identifying potential partners, the creation of the ideal partner profile by country, and participation in the selection, onboarding and activation process
  • Meet or exceed quarterly goals for the assigned region and assist in putting the focus on key product areas amongst channel partners
  • Work collaboratively with sales, service, and support to ensure effective account/customer management and communication through the entire sales cycle supporting the channel partners
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Illumina Channel Managers and their partners in an assigned territory
  • Ensure a high level of integration with other departments (e.g., Marketing, Customer Solutions, Quality, Regulatory, etc) to ensure coordination of activities and understanding of common goals.
  • Be the liaison between the region and corporate resources to help get answers quickly in order to close sales
  • Able to work cross-functionally across departments at Illumina and lead projects in order to drive sales for channel partners
  • Aid and assist the channel managers’ understanding and utilization of commonly used sales tools to help drive revenue
  • Attendance at tradeshows/conferences as well as the support of regional field marketing events as needed
  • Assist sales and field marketing on new strategic initiatives requiring both technical and market knowledge for channel partners
  • Help region identify and mitigate channel conflicts
  • Provide strategic and competitive feedback to field marketing
  • Provide coaching and feedback to channel managers as well as partners on building strategic growth plans.  Attend Quarterly Business Reviews as needed
  • Support contract and compliance obligations for the region to meet deadlines
  • Responsible for the execution and adoption of specific global sales programs for the region to help drive sales among the channel partners
  • Support and train channel partners based on objectives for the given region to include workshops, webinars, sales process, and LMS training  
  • Coordination of product launches with our distributor partners for Illumina and subsidiaries in a specified region
  • Drives partner portal adoption for respective region
  • Execution of application-driven presentations to channel partners in the given region

Required Experience/Skills:

•    Fluent in Mandarin Chinese

•    A minimum of 3+ years of sales experience in the Life Science industry

•    Experience in genetics or a related life science field preferred

•    Strong global sales, marketing, management, and general management aptitude and track record.

•    International travel up to 20%


  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, chemistry, or genetics required. MS / Ph.D. degree in genetics or a related field a plus. MBA or another related degree in business, marketing, communications a plus.
