Job Description

Position Summary:

As the On-Market Technical Lead for the Array Platform at Illumina, you will take a system level approach to drive effective and timely closures to customer escalations and CAPA investigations, as well as, evaluate, develop, and release design changes to existing products to enhance customer experience. You will be a technical leader within a multi-disciplinary global team working to coordinate activities at all levels of the Array Platform. You will lead the On-Market Team to maintain and enhance Illumina’s customer experience in both current and emerging applied markets.  The Technical Lead will help ensure that Illumina’s Array platform, used for translational science and a variety of high throughput applied commercial markets - including direct to consumer and healthy population screening - maintains its best in class status.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Accountable for on-market support of Array instrumentation, customer workflow automation, hardware and equipment, microarray and reagent consumables, and customer facing design, workflow and analysis software starting prior to new product launch and continuing through product End of Support (EOS).
  • Initial internal point of contact for all emerging on-market Array platform customer issues
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Customer Support, Quality, Development, and Operations Engineering, to classify and prioritize issues and drive continuous improvement activities across the platform.
  • Lead complex cross functional technical troubleshooting investigations in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Accountable for maintaining in a validated state the integration of all components of the platform including sample preparation, variant detection, hardware, instrumentation, and software.
  • Manages configuration of core consumables in on-market products, with the joint aims of minimizing configuration diversity/complexity and maintaining/improving product performance and customer experience.
  • Manage goals, budgets, and resources within defined target timeframes and make decisions regarding the direction of the Array platform team.
  • Technically mentor and develop a team of scientists, engineers, and SW developers in system level thinking to maintain best in class array products.
  • Write reports, present results, and deliver solution assessments to Senior Management to enable them to make informed business decisions
  • Work cross functionally with a diverse team of platform leaders to establish best practices and procedures for on-market product support
  • Partner with product development organization to ensure alignment in yearly goals and deliverables to enable best in class customer experience in emerging and existing markets
  • Must be open to international travel (10-15%) to maintain alignment with global sites and customers

Education and Experience

  • M.S./Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnical Engineering, Material Science, or related field with 6 years of relevant experience managing product development, production sustaining, process development, design, scale-up, improvement, and validation.
  • Ability to translate corporate goals into executable development plans while understanding technical risks, mitigations, and alternatives.
  • Strong interdepartmental communication and influencing skills are required
  • Experience in more than one of the following fields:, Genotyping, Epigenetics, Library Preparation, Enzymes, Oligos, Reagent Formulation, Next Gen Sequencing MEMS/Semiconductor Fabrication, Medical device design is preferred
  • Ability to understand data in whatever format it’s presented, and effectively transform it to communicate a story and preferred action plan
  • Demonstrated ability to drive impactful troubleshooting and process improvement projects using industry best practices including 6 sigma and critical parameter analysis
  • Familiarity with configuration management (PLM) systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguous requirements, adapt quickly, and learn
  • Prove capability in managing multiple business critical issues in parallel to successful conclusion
