Job Description

Staff Industrial Engineer- Logistics is responsible for leading complex distribution center design efforts in both existing and new facilities. Responsibilities include the design of new and existing company warehouses to meet scope, timeline, budget and requirements. Design package may include facility layouts, material handling equipment designs, storage media designs, process designs, slotting and pick path analyses, warehouse management systems and warehouse controls system requirement definitions, capacity plans with noted constraints, warehouse utilization studies, and labor models and staffing plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads development of data driven designs & processes by analyzing order, SKU, & storage data
  • Lead development of existing configuration in Warehouse & Distribution centers layout, racking, conveyors, automation and other material handling solutions
  • Conducts gap analysis, develops corrective actions & recommendations & executes plans to close gaps
  • Expert on material handling equipment and storage equipment design & selection. Remaining current on new
  • Researches and maintains knowledge of emerging industry practice
  • Other duties as required and assigned
  • Collaborate with Customers, Commercial Ops, Supply Chain, Quality, Trade Compliance & corporate Logistics to develop and build out logistics processes to meet stakeholder requirements and expectations
  • Support Customer Experience improvements around Supply Chain by collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Lead efforts to drive continuous improvement in Order to Delivery process – driving high customer satisfaction & lowering operating costs
  • Ensure that the local distribution process and systems are compliant with the Quality Management System, Good Manufacturing/Distribution Principles, ISO 13485, CFDA and SFDA requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge:  
    • Comprehensive knowledge/experience in warehouse design, material handling equipment & storage systems.
    • Comprehensive knowledge/experience in warehouse cold chain storage design & control.
    • Comprehensive knowledge/experience in warehouse SKU slotting, picking methodology, & process flow.
    • Comprehensive knowledge/experience of Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement.
    • Comprehensive analytical & problem solving capabilities
    • Strong knowledge of WMS, TMS and GTM systems and best practices
    • Strong knowledge & experience of medical device regulations as applied to logistics
    • Strong knowledge of business systems & data management
    • Strong knowledge of ISO 13485 and GMP/GDP systems, applications and policies
    • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word & Outlook)
    • Familiarity & understanding of SAP ERP, WMS, GTS and Processweaver
  • Skills:
    • Ability to identify and resolve complex problems that arise in relations to logistics activities
    • Customer-focused; keeps customers as a priority when making business decisions, listening to customer feedback and advocating for solutions that help drive improvement in the customers experience
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
    • Ability to collect data from internal/external survey, corporate databases, and design/administrate other targeted studies
    • Team oriented, collaborative partner that passionately advocates and articulates her/his opinion while maintaining flexibility to incorporate others point of views
    • Ability to lead & influence a diverse indirect team in a fast paced environment
    • Ability to exercise sound judgement within established guidelines
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in written format in English & Chinese
  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or related field, MBA preferred.
  • Experience
    • 8 years of experience in a Distribution Industrial Engineer role; 6 years of experience with a MS degree.
    • Previous experience in Life Sciences organization with focus on research and diagnostics preferred.
  • Other
    • Willing & able to travel to various Illumina, 3PL and customer locations, domestically and internationally
    • Willing to work as necessary to achieve defined goals and objectives
