Job Description

IBM's Tech Re-Entry program develops talented technical professionals who are looking to restart their careers after an absence from the workforce of two years or more. This paid 12 week internship enables participants to work on projects that match their expertise, interests, and abilities and could lead to full-time employment. In the same way an internship offers a guided period of exploration, the IBM Tech Re-entry internship program provides participants with an opportunity to update their skills in a work environment that may have significantly changed since their last experience. Interns will have access to the latest tools and technologies available and work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and business professionals to hone their expertise and focus on the next generation of software. The program will also provide the opportunity to experience the breadth of IBM resources while developing new relationships. Internship positions are currently available for IBM Sterling Order Management team in the Commerce organization in Littleton, MA.

IBM Sterling Order Management (OMS) is a next generation commerce platform that has been a backbone of e-commerce and order fulfillment for many of the top 100 retailers and Fortune 500 companies. This team is committed to the design and development of world class, data-driven, high performance order management system. The technologies you'll use will be from the wide-ranging gamut of the newer age containerization technologies (docker and such), NoSQL databases (cassandra etc.), search solutions (elasticsearch etc.) and newer age UI technologies like Angular to the more mature RDBMS, Java, J2EE systems.

You will get to solve some of the most complex engineering problems for a platform that sees several million transactional updates an hour. This role will not only test your technical acumen, but also your agility in learning and adapting.

As an OMS software developer, you will:

Assist product architects in designing software solutions that solve business problems.

Build robust Low-Level Designs and implement them using efficient algorithms using, on the most part, Java and others in its ecosystem.

Model databases, both traditional RDBMS as well as NoSQL databases and write efficient queries in their corresponding query languages.

Work in an agile development environment.

Experiment, prototype, learn and spread knowledge of new technologies that come up.

In order to qualify for this apprenticeship, applicant must have been out of the work force for a minimum of 2 years
