About Hypertherm

From the beginning, Hypertherm established itself as the innovator in plasma cutting technology. In fact, Hypertherm was the first plasma cutting equipment company to earn ISO 9001 registration in the USA. The company's first product, the PAC400, was the result of research and development that succeeded in directing water radially at a plasma cutting arc, producing a higher energy density on the area being cut. Metals up to 6 inches thick could be severed with far superior cut quality than any other plasma system available at the time. For over 30 years, Hypertherm has played a vital role in the metalworking industry and contributed pioneering advances to become the industry standard for cut quality and weldability. Under the leadership of Hypertherm's founder, Richard W. Couch, Jr., the company has grown from two associates housed in a small garage to close to 500 associates in a 135,000-square-foot facility in Hanover, New Hampshire, USA. Hypertherm has evolved into a thriving global entity that serves a continually expanding customer base in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The worldwide organization includes subsidiaries in Germany, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Italy and The Netherlands; sales offices in Canada, France, Mexico, and Japan; and welding supply distributors and original equipment manufacturers in 60 countries. The company is a member of the following organizations: The American Welding Society Association for Manufacturing Technology Associazione Nazionale Aziende Saldatura & Techniche Affini (Italian Welding and Cutting Producers Association) Deutscher Verband für Schweißtechnik (German Welding Association) Fabricators & Manufacturers Association Institut International de Soudure (French Welding Institute) Japan Welding Society, National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) National Welders Supply Association Society of Manufacturing Engineering Verband der Fachgroßhändler der Schweiß- und Schneidtechnik (German Association of Distributors of the Welding and Cutting Industry) Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (Wemco), Welding Manufacturers Association (UK) Although we believe Hypertherm employs more plasma engineers dedicated to research and development than any other company, technical acumen is not the only reason for its outstanding growth. A great part of Hypertherm's success is a result of its team-based corporate culture. In this environment, the collaborative participation of every Hypertherm associate is nurtured, appreciated and rewarded. Improvement ideas by associates are submitted, posted, processed and implemented. Teams are charged with the responsibility of bringing their own ideas into practical use. Concerns expressed are addressed by teams as they continually work to improve Hypertherm products and services. In 1999 alone, 2,362 manufacturing and service improvement ideas were submitted by associates, or nearly five ideas per associate. Of these ideas, 1,536 were implemented by the company.
