Background:

Hydro One Telecom offers communications and IT solutions to organizations with broadband network requirements utilizing our fiber optic network to provide diverse, secure and highly reliable connectivity in the Ontario market and extending to Montreal, Buffalo and Detroit.  We deliver these solutions to utilities, carriers, financial institutions, enterprises, public sector organizations and more. Our Business solutions include IP VPN, Ethernet, Wavelength Services, Internet Transit, and Digital Private Line. Our customers rely on our solutions to connect offices and data centers for mission critical applications with improved diversity. Our low latency solutions and detailed, customized approach to network design are essential for delivering these sophisticated solutions.

 

General Accountabilities:

  • Develop technical proposals for the delivery of advanced telecommunications services based on requests from customers.
  • Provide assistance to customers by defining their requirements and identifying the appropriate solution and present information to customers on service offerings, standards, policies, procedures and strategies.
  • Develop cost models and pricing recommendations for customer solutions.
  • Provide services proposals and solution recommendations directly to customers.
  • Maintain information on existing service offerings, projects and initiatives associated with assigned telecommunications services including the competitive landscape.
  • Provide technical assistance and design support to Services Development for the development of new services, to Carrier Services for the procurement of third party telecom and IT services, and to Order Management for the processing of customer orders.
  • Act upon and resolve customer complaints and suggestions pertaining to the portfolio of services.


Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge:

  • Requires thorough knowledge of computer science and methodologies to perform analysis and design criteria for telecommunications and information management systems.
  • Requires knowledge of engineering and computer applications of telecommunications equipment, digital computers, advanced software systems and data base management systems.
  • Requires knowledge of computer logic communications, network protocols and data structures related to diverse telecommunications systems.
  • Requires knowledge of IP networking, routing and switching, optical networking, control systems and IT networking.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years).

 

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge:

  • Requires thorough knowledge of computer science and methodologies to perform analysis and design criteria for telecommunications and information management systems.
  • Requires knowledge of engineering and computer applications of telecommunications equipment, digital computers, advanced software systems and data base management systems.
  • Requires knowledge of computer logic communications, network protocols and data structures related to diverse telecommunications systems.
  • Requires knowledge of IP networking, routing and switching, optical networking, control systems and IT networking.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years) and/or  8 years of telecommunications experience in a customer facing role.


Essential Experience:

  • Requires experience in all aspects of telecommunications and information management in a telecommunications carrier environment.
  • Requires technical experience with hardware, software and telecommunications network capabilities and operational aspects of the business.
  • Requires an understanding of the components of telecommunications and information management systems.
  • Requires technical expertise and experience in the areas of IP networking, routing and switching, optical networking, control systems and IT networking.
  • Requires extensive business experience with the application of telecommunications and information management methods to a large and diverse customer population.
  • Business acumen must include experience in preparing business cases for revenue opportunities and network development projects.
  • Requires experience with sales tools such as CRM or other opportunity and quoting tools.
  • A period of over 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • Requires strong spoken and written English skills to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
  • Requires a solid understanding of the marketing and selling environment.
  • Experience presenting technical solutions  in a variety of customer facing meetings
  • Experience with the account management process/sales – customer meetings, preparing quotations, supporting large RFP responses, facilitating order within the Company to successful completion.
