Job Description

Director of Environmental Health and Safety

The Humboldt Waste Management Authority (HWMA) is soliciting applications for the Position of Director of Environmental Health and Safety for its Hawthorne Street Transfer Station and Cummings Road Landfill. This is an exempt, full-time, management-level position with supervisorial, reporting, monitoring, and budgeting responsibilities requiring independent action and a high degree of personal responsibility in management of duties. The Director of Environmental Health and Safety reports directly to the Executive Director.

Minimum qualifications for potential candidates include: three years in management, with at least two in a supervisory capacity; a Bachelors (or higher) in Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science, or related experience in solid waste management or municipal activities; knowledge of the Integrated Waste Management Act, hazardous waste management, use of methods, tools and equipment in compliance monitoring and BMP’s, and regulatory permitting structures, including relevant codes, policies, and regulations.
