JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision acquires qualified and successful candidates for the Houston Independent School District alternative certification program (HISD Effective Teaching Fellows Program). Researches and uses data to develop and execute a recruiting strategy to attract, find, and hire candidates for the alternative certification program who positively impact student learning and district goals.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Designs recruiting campaign for HISD’s Effective Teaching Fellows (HETF) Program.
  2. Develops and implements recruiting plans for the district’s HETF Program. Collaborates with HETF leadership team, HR Certification Officer, and HR Recruitment team to determine appropriate timeline for recruitment and selection cycles.
  3. Documents and analyzes the results of each recruiting effort, identifies trends in data, and recommends changes in recruiting strategies as needed. Compiles data to develop appropriate management reports.
  4. Initiates and establishes positive ongoing relationships with appropriate university/college administrators, other workforce agencies, and internal departments.
  5. Refers appropriate candidates to principals, hiring managers, and HR Business Partners. Verifies certification requirements, assists international candidates throughout the job search process, and identifies appropriate placements.
  6. Screens candidates to compile a pool of high-quality recruits from sources such as job fairs, student teachers, walk-ins, and specific targeted groups. Confers with candidates throughout the job search process, identifying appropriate placements.
  7. Acquires and maintains current knowledge of SBEC Texas Administrative Code (TAC) regarding Educator Preparation Program (EPP) admission requirements and local school district program requirements. Collaborates with HETF Business Manager and HR Certification Officer on review of established program admissions requirements in alignment of district and program goals.
  8. Collaborate with local school districts to examine the criminal history of all educator preparation candidates prior to participation in educator preparation activities that occur in a school.
  9. Maintains accurate and current recruitment and candidate admission data for program reporting.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years. Teaching experience required

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Microsoft Office Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) Teacher Certification preferred

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY: No budget development activity is required.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS: Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS: Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Ability to carry and/or lift 45 pounds or more.



About Houston Independent School District

HISD provides bus service for eligible regular-education students who submit requests to their campus transportation coordinators and have them approved by the Transportation Services Department. Bus stops for most regular-education students will be located at HISD campuses that are within one mile of the student's residence, but no further than two miles.
