The Supervisor, Technical Services reports to the Senior Manager Technical Service and Stability and is responsible for providing planning, supervision, direction and technical oversight for all activities of the Technical Service group (TSG) at the assigned plant or location. Positions supervised include Technical Service Engineers (TSE), Technical Service Specialists (TSS), Technical Service Technicians (TST) and Contractors. In addition, this position may serve ad an administrative back-up for the C/WR process to the Senior Manager, Technical Service and Stability. Also included is responsibility for Project Leadership of C/WRs and other duties as  assigned.


1.      Day to Day Scheduling


  • Plan/schedule/assign work activities for the TSG to ensure projects are addressed with appropriate priority and sense of  urgency.
  • Ensure work priorities are understood by meeting regularly with the Senior Manager, Technical Service and Stability.
  • Organize,  schedule and coordinate  TSG work assignments .
  • Assign  Project Leaders from TSG as necessary .
  • Monitor TSG work assignments and communicate status to Senior Manager, Technical Service and Stability and other Key  Stakeholders as  required.
  • Identify and address scheduling interdependencies, exceptions, issues and obstacles with appropropriate  management  as required  to ensure project completion.
  • Ensure that TSG associates are trained and documentation  of subject training  is completed and   in

keeping with standard operating procedures (ref. QUMAS). Training should include but may not  be limited to: project management, verification/validation design, product design, test methods, company  systems and software.


2.      Performance Reviews


  • Complete midyear and year end performance  reviews for all direct  reports.
  • Ensure that direct reports are using TCL for personal growth and career    development.
  • Coach and develop direct reports in accordance with Succession/Development Planning and PFP Reviews.


3.      Technical/Analytical


  • Serve as Technical Supervisor for the TSG and provide technical assistance to plant personnel and other Key Stakeholders as  required.
  • Propose/Develop/Perform innovative physical testing methods as necessary to meet regulatory requirements, ensure product performance and ensure product safety and efficacy of finished products.
  • Consult with internal customers to select and perform physical tests to meet their    needs.
  • Recommend,  develop and validate new and revised  SOPs, test methods nad  procedures.
  • Write peer-reviewed  technical protocols  and reports and present results.
  • Train direct reports  on product requirements, test methods and equipment as   required.
  • Other duties as assigned by  management.

Essential Functions  of the Role**:

•Talking, walking, vision, hearing,  fine motor  skills, writing,  lifting up to 30 lbs. (occasional) and  pushing.

•Some, but not all aspects of this job could be modified to accommodate the physical abilities of a handicapped person.

Work Experience Req uirements

•Number  of Overall Years Necessary:  2-5


•Minimum 3 years successfully leading projects in Product, Process  or  Technology  Development  or  Product Support.

•Minimum 5 years of product/process design, verification and validation and working with technicians to complete testing.

Education Requirements

•Minimum  of Bachelor's  degree in a technical discipline  - Materials  Science or Engineering preferred.

•Master's Level degree a plus.

Specialized  Skills/Technical Knowledge:

•Demonstrated in-depth understanding of product design, product function,  product  materials,  physical testing and requirements related to medical device Design   Controls.


•Effective oral and written communication.

•Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

•Aptitude for high precision work.

•Capability to review literature and adapt analytical test methods.

•Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation.

•Demonstrated history of completing assignments on timely basis.

•Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

•High level of computer literacy.
