Job Description

The Performance Improvement (PI) Program Manager is responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing Hoag's performance improvement programs with a focus on quality, value, efficiency, patient safety, and an exceptional patient experience. The PI Program Manager will partner with front line staff, managers, and senior level management to develop, deploy and engrain quality improvement strategies throughout the organization in alignment with organizational goals. The PI Program Manager will lead and manage process improvement programs and projects using appropriate PI or quality management tools which may include Lean, DMAIC, or Six Sigma to minimize waste, decrease errors, increase efficiency and effectiveness, improve patient care and organizational processes and create value in assigned areas.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Concurrently manage multiple quality programs and/or initiatives ranging in complexity and scope including but not limited to Value Index initiatives and Hoag strategic or tactical initiatives as assigned
  • Serve as the "face" of assigned programs and projects, interacting with all levels throughout the organization from front line staff to executive leadership to promote best practices and standards across the Hoag enterprise
  • Educate management and mentor front line staff on the effective application of process management methods and continuous improvement concepts and how to apply and actively use them in their daily work
  • Partner with assigned business units to act as the unit's quality liaison to help understand quality initiatives and assist with development of quality goals
  • Successfully facilitate meetings with interdisciplinary teams guiding the group to appropriate and useful outcomes
  • Coordinate, facilitate and lead training sessions, process improvement events, and projects.
  • Gather and analyze appropriate data relevant to improvement programs ensuring efficient use of time and accurate analysis
  • Assess performance improvement opportunities independently including but not limited to direct observation, time studies, data gathering and data analysis
  • Develop and deliver education/training on performance improvement principles and techniques
  • Develop and maintain strong working, professional relationships with executive and functional staff associated with assigned projects
  • Understand the broader business environment and organizational strategy and factor this understanding into the reviews and finalization  of improvement recommendations
  • Demonstrate active awareness, with the ability to initiate, observe and listen to verbal and nonverbal interactions and events and process this input to adjust a course of action
  • Proactively seek to develop own skills and those of team members
  • Coordinate cross-functional relationship-building and integration to support program success
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business/Healthcare Administration or equivalent Hospital related experience.
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Previous experience in performance/process improvement projects including but not limited to Lean, Six Sigma methodologies.

 

Preferred: 

  • Master's degree in Business/Healthcare Administration or related field with hospital operations experience.
  • Advanced training or experience in performing statistical, financial and strategic analyses.
  • Consulting experience
  • Experience managing healthcare-related projects and familiarity with healthcare provider industry

 

Skills or Other Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Demonstrated performance improvement and process improvement skills and knowledge of methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, and PDCA.
  • Strong organization and project management skills. Ability to independently manage large, complex programs
  • Ability to multiple projects concurrently
  • Exceptional and adaptive written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel from senior leadership to frontline staff
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with a wide variety of project stakeholders at all levels in and across various organizations
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate  meetings and deliver presentations with a wide variety of audiences
  • Highly proficient in  Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and critical thinking skills for problem solving and identification of solutions.
  • Self-directed and results-oriented individual.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Strong business acumen, including organizational, marketplace and customer awareness and appreciation of the importance of business relationships
  • General IT fluency
  • Creative, self-confident, and flexible
  • Understands goals, articulates the significance of the problems Hoag is facing, and understands how projects will alleviate these issues
  • Able to mentor staff
